Andrea "Dreezy" Tinson looked around the newsroom, paying attention to each of her co-workers as her eyes racked over their desks. Some looked busy, others looked just as miserable as she felt inside. Some of them would be meeting up after work to enjoy trivia night but Dreezy just wanted to go home. Not that she had plans or anything. She'd just rather listen to music, browse social media and eat snacks at home.
"Andrea, there's still time to change your mind!"
"Uhhh, next week, I'm definitely there!"
"Boo! You suck!"She chuckled as she packed up her bag. Her mind had already drifted to what she'll eat tonight. Most of the things in her refrigerator required her to cook and she wasn't feeling that. So she decided to swing by her favorite spot in Atlanta and get some wings. She called in her order, picked it up and made her way home.
While walking inside her apartment, the 33-year-old desperately wished there was someone waiting for her. Even though she gave off the vibe that she was fine alone, she wanted someone to call her own. But after numerous subtle attempts to woo people, the failed talking stages and the one-hit quitters, she'd practically given up hope that love was in her future.
So she changed into her sweats and a t-shirt, washed her hands, grabbed the remote and plopped down in her spot on the sofa. After several minutes of scrolling and finding nothing to watch, Dreezy pulled out her phone and leaned back on the couch. She pulled up the new app, FunTap. It's a new app for Black creators, by Black creators. For the next few hours, she let her gummy kick in and enjoyed the videos on her feed. Then she ran across a video that captured all of her attention.
There appeared a young, Black woman, who looked to be in her late 20s. The caption made Dreezy smirk and the music had her bracing for what was to come. Only her mind could've never prepared her for what she saw. The woman, bent down and tapped her thighs, before breaking out in a twerk. Her back was sexy and strong, her hips effortlessly matching the beat. Not to mention how her body shook with the simple and subtle movements of her waist.
"Damn, she finnnneeeee..."
After getting tired of hearing the same 15 second tune for over 20 minutes, Dreezy finally put her phone down after double-tapping the screen. She leaned her head back and smirked up at nothing. Then her phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Hey friend! What are you doing?"
"Nothing, chillin. What you doing?"
"Putting together this reel. Will you look at it for me? I just want to make sure it looks good before I send it."
"You know I got you."
"Girl, I talked to Devin and he tripping again. Every day it's something weird with his ass."
"What he do?"
"Same ole, same ole. Got all the advice in the world for everybody else but don't want to take any."
"Y'all are hilarious. The app looks great!"
"Yeah, but we still need to do some outreach. I want to have a party for some of the creators to come to so we can all chop it up."
"That actually sounds really dope! I get on there everyday and there's some really funny people on there."
"Sooooo... does that mean you will help us plan this out?"
"Wait, what?"
"Yeah, we need you Dree! You're the only one that can call us out and keep us on track! Plus, you got a lil clout in these streets."
"No, I don't."
"Yes, you do! Girl, I can't tell you how many parties and connects I've made name dropping you. Please Dree Dree!"
"Ugh! I hate when you call me that! Fine!"
"Yes! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Love you! See you tomorrow!"
"Wait, what's tomorrow?!"
"We're taking you out for drinks so we can brainstorm and catch up! Muah! Gotta go! Cherish, put it the f-"Dreezy shook her head as she hung up the phone. That's pretty much how their friendship went. She'd met Sherita and Devin in middle school. Devin was picking on Dreezy when Sherita pushed him. A teacher stepped in and sent all of them to in-school suspension. While there, the three got to talking and they realized their love for music and celebrity gossip. They became tight and have had each other's back through life's ups and downs. From Devin's stint in prison, Sherita's divorce and Dreezy's layoff, they'd been each other's rock. So when Devin decided to move to Atlanta, Dreezy and Rita also took the dive. It's only been up since then.
She looked around her apartment, making sure everything was in order and it wasn't too messy. She then went into the bathroom, preparing to go to sleep. Dreezy laid in her bed, once again finding herself on FunTap, staring at a particular video. She just couldn't get it out her head. She soon drifted off to sleep, a new face entering her dreams.
Then those dreams turn dark. Happiness isn't a concept that Dreezy knows to stick around for long. She dreamed of that same new face, breaking her heart. She shook her head and turned over. Sometimes it's best to just overlook dreams.
