They have strong and tough armor, but it is not invincible. If the armor is cracked, or worse, broken off, then the broodwing is basically defenseless. If the broodwing survives this, it will grow back over time, but it takes a few months or years.
Getting their antenna snapped off is a death sentence too. They use those to find their food and to see in the day time, without that the broodwing must rely on another's help for getting food and keeping balance as they walk. The antenna do not grow back, and if they are broken off, that's it.
Their faces are their most vulnerable spot. They just have scales there, no exoskeleton, no fur, just scales. Getting stabbed there or clawed will cause extreme amounts of pain to the broodwing and they will bleed a ton. It is something that can heal, but it will probably leave a scar.
