"Nico, I have another mission for you." I rolled his eyes. I was standing in front of my father's throne in his Underworld palace. Lately, my father's "missions" had consisted of me getting McDonald's and sacrificing it to the dead, or burning a peacock alive to annoy Hera.
"What is it father?" I said, not bothering to keep the sarcasm out of my voice. He pointed to a zombie who was carrying a package. When I opened it up, there was a long, black clock with a creepy white eye embroidered onto the arm. "You want me to wear this?"
"Long ago, before humans, another species was made by Prometheus. The elves-." I snorted. Hades glared at me. "The elves were a magical species with special powers and a infinite lifespan. Zeus got jealous and tried to get rid of them, but he was unsuccessful. Instead, he created a curse that said that amount of elves reached one million every single elf would die so they could not overpopulate the Earth and destroy Olympus. There are currently around 950,000 elves spread across the globe with superhuman abilities." I shrugged. Sounded like your average forgotten Greek myth to me.
"So, you want me to lift the curse or to murder a couple thousand elves? Either works." I said, thinking of the best ways to commit genoside to three or four hundred thousand elves. My father, however, shook his head.
"You are not to kill them, but to join them. They are currently facing a terrible rebellion group that is trying to take over. You are to pretend to be an elf that was kidnapped and forced into working for these elves, the Neverseen. You will pretend to have escaped and will tell the leaders of the elves of a Neverseen member. Hecate understands how important this mission is and will give you the gift of their language." I sighed. This sounded like a multi month project.
"Is there a reason to go on this mission? What does this have to do with the curse?" I asked putting on the cloak. It fit perfectly, and it's hood properly covered my head and forehead to the point nobody would be able to recognize me in it.
"The Neverseen is trying to take over the humans, force them into one area, and then the elves expand. If they succeed I foresee the elvin population skyrocketing and then they would go extinct. Your goal is to stop them." I nodded. "However, they is another reason to send you on this mission. That reason is your friend, Perseus Jackson." I stopped fiddling with the cloak and glared at my father.
"What does Percy have to do about anything? He's pretty much retired." I said, grabbing my sword hilt out of instinct.
"Perseus needs to be kidnapped by the elves for my plan to work." I laughed.
"Father, Percy's way to powerful to be kidnapped and not escape. You overestimate me." I said, releasing my sword hilt.
"You won't be the one to kidnap him. I've set up the dominos, Nico. You're just the one to push them over."
"What do I get from this? I'm not assisting my best friend's kidnapping for nothing." I said. Hades smilied.
"Immortality for you, Will, your children if you have any, their children, their children, you get the gist. You'll be gods. You also only get the immortality after death, so you. Will, your children, and any of your descendants also get to have a fully fledged mortal life. Plus, your sister, Hazel, and any of Hazel's possible descendants and will live with you after their deaths. That's my offer." He said, waving his hand in a dismissive gesture. My eyes widened.
"Father, that's- that's not a normal reward. What about the rest of my friends?" I asked. Father just shrugged.
"I know Poseidon has something similar planning for Perseus and Annabeth, those hunter friends of yours are immortal, the archer boy will live with Hazel and you after his death, and the rest of your friends will probably make it to Elysium. I'll give you full permission to visit them if they do. How's that sound?" Hades asked. I was overwhelmed. Getting to live my life happily and then, after I die, being immortal with my sisters and friends? I don't know anyone who would say no to that, except maybe Percy. But Percy wanted to stay mortal because of Annabeth, and Will would be immortal with me. Plus, Hades wasn't giving me a choice of reward. I knew if I asked him for something else he would call me ungrateful and make me do the quest for nothing. What choice did I have?
