"Thanks so much Dawn. I appreciate you letting me eat with you and you're lovely family." I smiled brightly at Maximus' mother, who was washing the dishes in a dented up metal bin. She stopped scrubbing one of the plates and looked at me grinning happily. "It's nothing really, we always have a little extra food for a special someone, in this case its you. Dear God doesn't even know how long I've been waiting for that boy to bring a girl home". She smiled at me, making my heart melt. She was so nice, and her eyes twinkled like Maximus' when he smiled.

"Oh, you don't mean that. I'm sure Maximus has brought girls home before right?" I asked her, avoiding her gaze. Was I really the first?

"No darling, you're the first." My heart sped up again. How could this be? Maximus was all to handsome to never have brought a girl home. With his tall figure, bright emerald eyes that shined brighter than the moon when he smiled, and that smile that made a girl's heart flutter.

"Wow." I breathed, nervously playing with my fingernails. Dawn rinsed the rest of the dishes and wiped her hands on a rag. She tucked a piece of grey hair behind her ear and looked at me. "You are staying here a while, yes?"

"Well, I would hope so?" I questioned. I wouldn't want to just intrude Maximus' life. I mean, his family was already a little baffled at the thought of him bringing a girl home. Which, made me laugh. I still had no other place to go, and staying with Maximus for a while didn't sound so bad.

"Yes, you can stay" Maximus' voice frightened me a bit, it was so sudden. "Whoa Maximus's didn't see you there" I said awkwardly. His face flushed a light pink. "Yeah sorry about that, but you can stay. Right mother?" He eyed his mother carefully his lips thinning into a tight line. I couldn't help but laugh at how ridiculous he looked.

"Of course she can stay, Maximus. We just got to find her a place to sleep". Maximus was about to speak but his mother cut in.

"And no, not in you're room." Dawn narrowed her bright eyes at him, and again, I had to suppress a giggle. Maximus's cheeks burned just as red as mine did.

"Maybe she can sleep with Madison then." He said, glancing towards me. "Okay that's fine. Madison come to the kitchen, dear." Dawn called.

The girl that looked about 12 with Maximus's eyes walked in. Her curls were wild, like she had just woken up. "Yes mama" she yawned, rubbing her eyes gently. "Emma here is going to be staying the night in you're room, okay? Make her feel welcome." she patted Madison's back lightly.

"Okay, come on Emma." Madison carefully tugged on my arm with her soft hands. I followed her looking behind me to see Maximus chuckling slightly crossing his arms over his chest. She led me up a flight of stairs and down a dark and narrow corridor. "This is my room, Emma." she smiled proudly as she opened her door revealing a light blue room.

I smiled in admiration as I took in everything around me. She had knickknacks and paintings all over the place. Her bed was filled with stuffed animals delight. "Like it?" She said stepping into the room, gently shutting the door behind her.

"Yes, I really do. It's lovely." I turned to her laughing lightly. This was how I imagined my room when I was little, instead I had white walls and a flat bed.

"You can sleep on my bed with me, I don't bite, promise." Madison giggled showing me her pinky. I took it gladly, and looped mine around hers.

"Making plans to kill me already, aye?" Maximus's body leaned against the door frame. I swung my head around and I felt my face grow hot. "N-never" I grinned nervously, he laughed, his eyes twinkling.

"Go away Maxi, we need to go to bed." Madison budded in lightly pushing his stomach. He laughed rubbing her head. "Okay, fine. Goodnight love." He kissed Madison on the cheek and hugged her tightly. I smiled at him crossing my arms over my chest. "How sweet?" I teased poking his cheek.

"Ah stop it. You should get to bed Emma." Maximus grinned at me. Then to my surprise he pulled me into a hug. For a few seconds I stood there frozen, but his warm chest thawed me out of my shock. I pulled away a few seconds later, and I knew my face was pink.

"Yeah, goodnight Maximus" I said stepping away from him. He laughed then closed the door behind him. "Here, Emma," Madison said from behind me, passing me a night gown. I took it from her gladly and changed in the bathroom. When I was done, Madison was already sleeping. I snuck into bed with her, and as soon as I relaxed and got comfortable, I felt her nudge her small body into mine. I couldn't help but to think of Daniel.

Before the tears could prick my eyes, I got closer to Madison, protectively wrapping my arms around her. She gave me comfort, thank God.
