Prolong:

I was six years old when I lost my father, due to an assassination outside of MLI. My mother kept it in shape, but the stress took hold of her heart. By the time I was eighteen, Mom passed away from heart failure. I was beside myself, and I couldn't get through it. However, Dad's lawyer took me in and helped me back on my feet. When I made a full recovery, he stated because my dad had a brother, he was my legal guardian until I turned 21. He was horrible to me and worsened my condition. My lawyer managed to put him behind bars before I was done. He helped me heal, and when I turned 21, I was official, the rightful owner of the Marine Life Institute. I also discovered that I was the first person in 5 centuries to be an animal whisperer. Marine animals are my specialty, but I don't mind going to the zoo often to see my animal buddies there. The employees knew about my gift, and made sure I'd have a special area to meet them all.

I carried my father's legacy with me, and everything was running better than ever. There were times I missed my parents, but I made memorials, to honor their sacrifices for this place. There were a few people that disagreed with how things ran here, but they never knew the real story, like me.

I'm not ashamed of what I've become, nor what entitled people think I am. They all think I'm another snake in society, and they just see the worse of me. When they complain or attempt to bad mouth me and my family name, it backfires with stated facts from other people who knew them. In the end, they admit their false accusations and remain silent. That's why I try to avoid as many Karens, as I humanly could.

Chapter 1:

As I was outside and singing, "Gales of Song," from an anime movie, Belle, when I began to remember the dreams of being in a fish tank with a group called tank-something As my memory began to become clear, I snapped back into reality when the radio went off.

Employee: "Base, this is Jennifer. Arnold and I found a few fish in plastic bags by the bay. Is Faith available at this time?"

Me: "10-4, Jennifer. I'm on my way to Quarantine."

I ran straight there and didn't break a sweat. I got to the tank where they kept the rescued fish for observation. Oddly enough, the fish look familiar. I mean, for real, germaphobic purple gramma fish, friendly pink-red sea star who can read, brownish-gold porcupine pufferfish with a bit of anxiety and temper, blue and white striped humbug damselfish who's Schizophrenic, a yellow tang fish, who has a peculiar obsession over the bubbles, a French-accented red and white cleaner shrimp, and finally, a Moorish Idol, with scaring on their right side, along their fin.

Looking at the Moorish, the memory I was recalling was more than one, and they flooded back into my mind. The only thing I muttered was, "G-Gill?"

He looked at me surprised until something clicked in his eyes,

"Sonya? Is that you?" I nod, and he began to feel relaxed, and the others began to swim, excitedly, "Oh, kid. You have no idea how thrilled we are to see you again. What are you doing here?"

"This my family's business. I'm the director of the MLI."

Peach: "M.L.I.? What's that?"

"It's this place, Peach. The Marine Life Institute. Also known as the jewel of Morro Bay, California. You guys are here."

Gurgle: "Is this place like the dentist's office, Sonya?"

"What? No, no, nonononono. Heavens no, Gurgle. (Chuckle). No. This place is much better than the dentist's office in Sydney, believe me. Hundreds of fish arrive here, every other month, from either injuries or sickness. We the employees of MLI, rehabilitate the rescued fish to their glory and send them back to the ocean. However, there's one thing you guys should keep in mind."

I pull out a fish tag, "If any of my staff puts this on you, you guys won't be going to the ocean, at all. Instead, you'd be taken to an aquarium in Cleveland, Ohio. Fish in here, are sent back to the ocean. Those who were chosen to go to Cleveland, stay there forever."

As suspected, Bloat begins to panic, then he puffed up. I lightly chuckled, "Luckily, you guys don't have to worry about anything in MLI. The staff is mostly marine biologists and marine veterinarians. They not only study the ocean, but they help the fish here get better."

I bent down to get close to them all in the tank, "I may not promise everything, but do promise this: I'll make sure no one separates any of you away from each other. I will do my best, to keep you guys stuck together. This I promise to all of you."

Gill swims forward, "That's very reassuring, Sonya. Thank you." I smiled and stood up. I look to Jennifer and Arnold, "Proceed with the diagnoses on them, I'll fill the paperwork, okay?" They nod and began while I walked to the counter, and wrote down all of the information about the tank gang. After it was done, they explained the diagnosis to them, and they were concerned about Gill's fin. I explained what happened to him and that it was irreversible. They understood and headed to the veterinarians for treatments, with the paperwork. I stayed with the tank gang until someone radioed in for my assistants. I had to excuse myself to see what was going on.

Sure enough, it was the same Karen three weeks ago. The second she saw me, her face drained while I used the calmest yet furious look I could muster. I asked, "Hello, ma'am. Is there anything I can do for you?"

"Well, you're staff here, uhh-"

"Don't try with that nonsense again, I know what you've been up to. One of my other staff radioed me about the situation, and you should know by now that I don't take kindly to guests who treat my staff so disrespectfully. If this continues, you will be temporarily banned from this place. Thus, mistreat my staff, or my Institute, and found out."

She scoffed and walked away. I radioed all staff to keep a good eye and ear on her. They agreed, and not even ten minutes later. One of my staff radioed in about her suspiciously shoplifting one of the gift shops. When I got there, and checked the camera, she sure enough she was caught shoplifting. I banned her for nine months for it, and the state agreed and took her to their police department. Apparently, she only stole it as a supposed lesson to me about talking to her like that. I honestly know at this point, some Karens wake up and choose to cause trouble, only for it to backfire on them. After she left, I lightly chuckled and went back to Quarantine.
