DIANA REGAINED CONSCIOUSNESS WITH A JOLT, hitting the back of her head on a hard surface covered in fabric. The pitch black darkness sent her into a state of confusion until the memories flooded back into her mind like an unforgiving tsunami. Panic filled her senses as she remembered James hitting her over the head and pressing a cloth soaked in chloroform over her airways.

There was duct tape over her mouth and an uncomfortable pressure digging into her wrists and ankles. It was distinctive enough for her to realize that she was tied up. The movement of the car was the only reason she knew that she was stuffed in a trunk.

Diana was terrified. It felt like the blood in her veins was replaced with ice that weighed her down to keep her in place. She couldn't stop shaking or imagining the worst case scenario.

Over the sound of her brother's car, the voices that plagued her existence screamed as loudly as they could: DANGER! DANGER! DANGER! And the sickening realization washed over her. James was flayed. He had to be. It was the only explanation, he would never hurt her otherwise.

No, no, no. Not James. He doesn't deserve this.

Tears clawed their way into her eyes and she shut them in a vain attempt to stop them from falling. As foolish as it sounded, she thought it would all go away once she opened her eyes again. She thought that if she really believed it, she would be back in her bedroom with her blanket around her shoulders and this would all be a horrible nightmare. But when she opened her eyes, she was met with the same daunting darkness.

Her fear drove her into action and her survival instincts kicked in. She didn't have time to sulk. She had no idea where she was, her destination, or what awaited her when she arrived. The possibilities were endless, but she knew two things for sure—she was in imminent danger and the Mind Flayer was stronger than her. She didn't have powers like El, and she didn't stand a chance against anyone who was flayed if they fought like Billy did. Any chance of making it out unscathed required her to act now and act fast.

Dragging her feet against the perimeter of the trunk, she found the corner behind the tail light and kicked as hard as she could. She had never been more thankful for the true crime documentaries her mother watched because without them, she would never have known that weak spot existed.

The tail light fell out of its socket and light streamed into the trunk. Her eyes squinted as she adjusted to it and she tried her best to bring her hands up to her mouth to remove the duct tape sealing it shut. James hadn't expected her to wake up during her transportation.

After removing the duct tape, Diana twisted her body so she could see the knotted rope around her wrists. She tried her best to undo the complicated knot with nothing more than her mouth, but her body was trembling so intensely that she couldn't get a good bite of it.
