New year, New life, New Me.
It was supposed to be like that, but Shiana never knew that what came after the new year would be another wave of sadness, anger, and much more.
January 2nd of the new year was supposed to be an ordinary day until the news hit Shiana's family with a bunch of bricks. No, it was more than a bunch of bricks. It's like thunder until it turns into a storm. It was both a piercing and excruciating feeling.
Some would have said she's overacting like her ordinary self, but no. Like the speed of light, Shiana's emotions were twirling so fast that you cant almost recognize what she was feeling. For Shiana, the new year was calm before the storm.
She hated everything that was happening in her life. Shiana always hears people say that new years are the start of new beginnings, a new chapter in everyone's life. But she hated this new chapter in her life, and as much as possible, she never wanted to be part of it. Sad to say, she's the main character of her story, and she has to be in it.
"Your grandfather is dead" Is the last thing her eyes had seen from her sister's phone before Shiana's mind started malfunctioning.
"Of course, it wasn't true! It can't be, right?" like a mantra, she keeps repeating these words in her mind. But no matter how she repeated it like a spell, deep inside, she knew it was true.
No wonder her older sister had kicked her and said she didn't care about what was happening when Shiana was in her earphones blasting the sound to shut everyone in the world. Her Grandfather is dead! Earlier, there was a commotion downstairs with her auntie barging in, looking for their mom, who knew it was at that moment! Shiana thought it was one of her auntie's moments when she would go to their house with her loud voice only to ask them to buy some of her products.
Yesterday, they were still celebrating New Year with her whole family. It was the 1st night of January when her mother decided to call her grandparents from Bohol. They were talking. Shiana even said hi and greeted them with a happy new year. Who knows, that would be Shiana's last moment with her Grandfather. She didn't believe it.
"Cuz, what happened to Grandpa?" Shiana messaged her cousin whose in Bohol. Shiana was hoping and dreading that the small bubble on her screen would be the words she wanted to read, that it was all just a prank. But everything shattered when her cousin replied.
"Cuz, Grandpa is gone."
