I yawn, rubbing my eyes. What time is it? I can't find my phone on the nightstand. Shit. I panicky check all on my bed. Where are you? I scrambled around. I finally got off my bed and heard a loud thud on the other side. Gotcha. I walk over to the other side of my bed. Thought you could get away, didn't you? Ha-ha. I look at the time. Fuck. I'm late. Like late. I sigh great. I finally exit my room as quietly as I can. I continue to go to the kitchen. Man, I am hungry as Hell. What do I want to eat? Oh, I know. I'll make some cinnamon bread. That sounds so amazing right now. I get done making my lunch and go back to my room. It smells so good. I jump on the bed and crawl back under the covers.
I inhale the food. It was better than it smelled. I could go to school. Damn it. I might as well. I get done eating and put on my shoes. There is no point in changing since I believe there is only 4 hrs. of school left.
I run down to the garage and get my bike since Dad and Mom are on a business trip. I'm damn lucky I live only like 2 miles or so from school. I get there pretty quickly, throwing my bike into the bike rack. I go to whichever door I am close to and try to open it. Locked. That's ok, I'll try the next one. Locked. I'm pretty sure I try every single door when I start walking back to my bike one of them opens.
"Hey, you." The voice said. "Here, just hurry so a teacher doesn't see."
I run into the school. The doors click behind me. Noted, they lock the school after class starts. I realize I didn't grab my backpack from the house. Shit. I should've just stayed home.
"Hey, you good?" The voice said again. "Don't worry I was late too, that's why I was wandering the halls, I'm lost.
"I didn't bring my backpack; I am so unprepared." I sigh dragging my feet. "Oh, uh thank you by the way."
I look up at the kid who let me into the school. He has short blonde hair and bright blue eyes. He also has an earring in his left ear. He pauses for a moment and reaches out his hand.
"I'm Oliver." The boy states. "It's nice to meet you, and no problem, hopefully, you'll do the same."
"I'm Emery but my friends call me Emmie." I grasp his hand for a handshake. "It's very nice to meet you too Oliver."
"Do you know where your first class is?" He asks. "You don't have your schedule with you, do you?"
"No, I don't even have a pencil with me." I give a hopeless chuckle. "I'm honestly thinking of just walking back out that door-."
"You want to?" We stopped walking for a moment. "I mean if you want company, I know a place."
"Are you sure?" We both look at the door. "I don't want to get you in trouble."
"Well, I'm pretty sure I'd get myself into trouble if they found out I opened the door to a stranger." He chuckled. "I honestly don't want to be here at all.""Ok then, let's go." I smiled at him. "Only if you are sure though."
"Sure, you don't seem like a dangerous stranger." He seems chill. "I might be stranger danger though, are you sure you can trust me?"
Good question. Eh, what the hell it's worth the chance. I wasn't going to go today anyway.
"Are you going to kill me?" I stared narrowed-eyed. "Is your real name Oliver?"
"Uh, I mean not at the moment?" Oliver put his hand on the back of his head. "Yes, my name is Oliver."
Good enough for me. I nod to him, and we go right back out the door. I walk to the bike rack, and he does the same. Same dude. His bike is black and green, with those tire things for people to stand on, what are those called? Whatever they are called they go well with his bike.
"Hey, let's take my bike." He stated. "That way only one of us will be tired."
"Yeah, good point I guess." I looked at the unnamed thing on his tires. "What are those called?"
"Oh, those.'' He sort of smiled. "Those are bike pegs."
"Wow, I literally couldn't think of the name." I was disappointed in myself. "Anyways let's go."
I stand on the bike pegs carefully. Ok, Oliver do not do something stupid. He starts peddling and we can leave the school. He peddles pretty damn fast. He takes us down this cobblestone drive actually not too far from my house. Oh shit, it's bumpy. I almost fall so I grab onto Oliver.
"You ok back there?" He kind of peaks behind his back. "Uh."
"Yeah, yeah I'm great," I say looking at my feet shake on the pegs. "Just keep your eyes on the road bud."
We both stay quiet for a good few minutes. What if he is a killer... Na. Well, maybe. I look around at the scenery. We are on a narrow cobblestone path that is surrounded by large fall seasoned leaves. It's really peaceful. If he was a killer, I hope to be buried here. You know what, I'm gonna tell him just in case he is a serial killer.
"Hey, in case you do kill me." I kinda lean forward so he can hear me. "I wanna be buried near here."
"Noted. However, I'm not gonna kill you." He stayed focused on the road. "We are here let's walk."
I nod and get off the bike. We walk side by side on the narrow cobble. We walk for at least 3 minutes. When we reach the end of the road the sun shines brightly in our faces. We walk to where the sun isn't blasting us in the face. Woah. It's a lake. Its very secluded with trees surrounding us, there is a group of weeping willows in the crevice of an open curve of the lake. There is still haze over it ingulfing and absorbing some of the willows in it. There is a lookout dock near the willows, with a few benches, it's like a little gazebo. Wow. Like serious wow. This is where I want to be buried.
"I changed my mind." I look at him. "This is definitely the place to bury me."
He turns and looks at me blankly faced. He then proceeds to roll his eyes and continues walking. I follow him till we reach the dock. I should bring Suki here. I pull out my phone and go to message her.
"Emmie?" He taps me on the shoulder. "I'm sorry, but please don't tell anyone about this place yet, it's kinda sacred."
"Yet?" I raise an eyebrow. "So, then we are gonna be here more than once?"
"Well of course, we are partners in crime after all." He grinned back. "I mean only if you'd like to."
"Maybe, you seem like a cool and nice person," I responded. "We can be friends."
"Then yes we will be back here many times." We sit down on a bench. "I like doing my homework here."
"How did you even find this place," I asked Oliver. "It's so hidden."
"I uh, well honestly I was running away from home and kinda fell going through a tree into the lake."
He gets up pointing across the way to a group of trees. He sighs.
"Right there actually, behind those trees is where I live." He sat back down. "Home sweet home."
"I live right there." I point to our left. "I can even see the chimney."
He kinda smiles.
"That's actually kind of cool." He speaks. "This could be our secret hangout spot."
"Yeah, it could be, so Oliver tell me about yourself," I speak. "We still don't know each other."
"Well, my favorite color is maroon." He looks at me. "I like all animals, what do you want to know?"
"Why were you late for school?" I ask not thinking before I speak. "You don't have to answer that."
"Home troubles." He stares back at the lake. "Why were you late?"
"Oh uh, I'm not used to being home by myself, so I didn't sleep good during the night." I responded. "I overslept."
"I wish that was the case for me ha." He sighs again. "What do you want to be when you grow up?"
"I want to be..." I realized I haven't truly thought about it. "I don't know."
"I want to be a doctor." He smiled. "Specifically for children, so a pediatric doctor."
"Why, if you don't mind me asking." I ask anyways. "Again, you obviously don't have to answer."
"My sister." His eyes go grayish. "She's gotten sick a lot, and my parents won't listen to her."
"How many siblings do you have?" I don't know why, but I was surprised. "I'm sorry to hear that as well."
"Only my sister Octavia." He chuckles. "I call her octopus."
"That's funny." I laugh. "I would probably do the same."
"What about you?" He talks.
"What about me?" I ask.
"Do you have any siblings?" He responded.
"No, I'm the only kid." I state. "My mom and dad only had me."
