We keep driving farther and farther away from town until there's nothing around. After driving for about 2 hours in completely nothing, I fall asleep and dream. All I see is black. I look left and right, still nothing. I reached out but all I can feel is the floor, no walls, no ceiling, just nothingness. Even though it's dark, I can feel the presence of someone else, getting closer and closer to me. All the sudden the lights turn on and I'm surrounded. I'm surrounded by my worst fear. He walks closer and closer to me until he's right in front of me. He leans down with a sly grin on his rat like face. Then, he grabs my neck and says----
I suddenly wake up, drenched in sweat, In front of a ginormous oak tree in a forest that seemed to appear out of nowhere. "Finally! We made it to headquarters," says Kyle, sounding exhausted. "Where the heck are we and why did you call this 'headquarters'? We're in the freaking forest!" I exclaim. Right as I get out my last sentence, he walks over to the tree, puts his hand in a squirrel hole, and when he pulls his hand out, a door opens to go inside the tree!
What the---
"Are you coming or what," Kyle says with a grin. "If I come with you, you won't rape me or anything, right?" I ask. Right when I say that I kinda regret it but, thankfully, he laughs and says," Don't worry Carter I'm not going to do anything like that. And, frankly, you're not my type."
Well thanks a lot Kyle.
But I laugh it off like it didn't sting in the least bit. After we calm down, he holds out his hand for me to take. At first I hesitate, but once I look at his face, I realize I can trust him. So, I grab his hand and he leads me into the tree, elevator thing. As we enter the elevator, I look at the buttons and only see two.
Umm, how is there a mission room and a lab under a oak tree? And what the heck does it mean mission room!?!?
Right after I finish my thought, Kyle says,"Don't worry Carter, you'll find out everything when we get to the mission room."
Well, that answers that question. Kinda. Not really. Oh well.
Just then I feel a bump as the elevator comes to a stop on the mission floor. After the doors open, my jaw drops in shock. The room is huge with more electronics than I can count. There's a table in the middle of the room with chairs all around it and a hologram screen. Pictures flash across the screen, maps, news reports, surveillance cameras, etc. All around the room there are weapons and weird types of cars and motorcycles that I'm sure barely anyone else has seen. But, there's one thing that really catches my eye. In one corner of the room, there are 3 gigantic tubes that run from the floor to the roof. As I'm starring at, well, everything, Kyle lays his hands on my shoulders and says,"Carter Watson, welcome to Vaster Spy headquarters." "Hold up, spy headquarters?," I exclaim. Before Kyle could say anything else, a secret door opens up and two people walk through, a man around 25 and a girl around 15. "Hello Carter, my name is Mr.Harster and this is Cecilia, but you can call me sir," the man, who I now know is Mr.Harster, says. "Oh, um, hello sir. Nice to meet you," I stutter. "No need to be nervous, we're not going to hurt you or anything. We're just going to train you for your first mission as a spy," he says in matter-of-fact tone. "What? I'm not a spy! I don't know the first thing about spy stuff! And for your information, I won't "train" for anything unless I say so! Got it! " I exclaim. "I understand Carter and I will try to respect your wishs, but it won't be easy," Mr.Harster says in a way that makes me nervous. Before I can start to have my a panic attack, Kyle turns me around, puts his hands on my shoulders and looks me straight in the eyes."Carter, you don't need to know anymore than you already do. You are the most qualified person I know to be a spy, and I just met you! So, will you let us explain everything before you say no? I promise if you decide to stay, I won't let anything happen to you," he whispers in a voice that is confident. For some reason, this helps me make my decision. I look away from Kyle and face Mr.Harster. "Well, are you gonna start explaining or what?"
