LOVE
A heart of empathy
A heart of pain
They all see me
But I am never the same
The word love tends to be thrown around a lot, but I promise this isn't "The Fault in Our Stars" moment. It's actually a little sadder to me anyways. Maybe cause it actually happened to me. But this is the story of young heartbreak. I guess if I am gonna tell the story I should start from the beginning.
I'm Mack, I am a small town country girl, born and raised on the ranch, around horses and cows. I live in a family of four including me. It's my mother, father, May, and me.
Then there's Jonathan. He was the sweetest, dorkiest, kindest, and most amazing person I bet you would ever meet. He sat beside me everyday at lunch and always showed me how to hack into the school's internet when I forgot. But the best of all, he'd walk me home every Thursday. Man my sister loved that....So did I...
"JONATHAN!" She'd always scream as she ran as fast as he little stubby legs could carry her. Her brunet hair being carried by the soft spring breeze and her raggedy baby doll in her left hand, cookie in the right.
As she reached him, she'd jump straight into his arms as he reached out to catch her. As he would catch her, he would always say "Gotcha" and hug her. She would hug back and if Jonathan really wanted to make her blush, he would kiss her cheek and send her running back to mom as red as a rose.
"Where is he?" She now asks as she would impatiently look over my shoulder for her prince charming. Thursday after Thursday, she is waiting by the paint chipped fence with her baby doll and an extra chocolate chip cookie for her prince charming And Thursday after Thursday, I softly sit her in the middle of the field where all the violet forget-me-not's and yellow daisies were growing, explaining Jonathan is off on an unexplored island with his mother and father. "At this moment he is swimming in the crystal blue waters with his German Shepard. He has a major tan and it getting very strong." I would tell her and pick her a bouquet of wild flowers, giving her a dandy lion to make a wish as she ran towards the old run down place we still called home.
"Where is he now?.." I wonder to myself, watching her run to back to mother..."How do I tell a four year old her prince charming isn't coming back for her?
