REWIND (A Transformers Prime: Humanformers AU)

Chapter 1

"Psst!"

Jack sighed as he heard the pestering hiss for the fifth time that period. He could feel Miko's eyes boring holes into the back of his head. Could it not wait? She had been poking him this entire class period. He was not necessarily ignoring her, but would try to shush her or urge her to pay attention to class. However, when she poked him again for the sixth time, he finally turned around slightly. 

"What?!" he hissed in a frustrated whisper, his blue eyes glinting with annoyance. 

The younger girl was also scowling, eyes looking slightly offended.  "Bout time, you jerk!" she whisper-hissed back, poking him one more time for seemingly good measure.

Jack groaned slightly, rolling his eyes. He almost turned around again, but her hardening glare kept him there. "I'm trying to pay attention. This stuff is important, you know." He gestured slightly with his head to the instructor speaking up front.

Miko scoffed slightly with a disbelieving look, shrugging. "Yeah, history is super exciting." She rolled her eyes and tapped her desk slightly with her finger. "It's boring, dude! We should pay attention to the here and now!"

He winced as her voice raised slightly, glancing back up front to make sure the instructor had not heard. Luckily, he was a rather loud speaker, and fully enveloped in his lesson at the moment. Jack sighed a little in relief, looking back to her with a scowl. He cared about her, and knew she had a hard time paying attention, but still.

"I also would rather not go to detention, unlike a certain someone," he shot back quietly, turning his back to her once more. 

He heard her groan under her breath, knowing that she was frustrated. He growled slightly in annoyance as she poked his back with her pencil several times. Now she was just trying to get a rise out of him. He kept his bubbling frustration in check, turning his head sharply to give her a glare. Miko only raised her eyebrows as she leaned forward a bit dramatically.

I can't take her anywhere, he thought to himself, inwardly groaning. The two were best friends, but it seemed like he was constantly cleaning up her messes. He shuffled around in his backpack, pulling out some notebook paper and a pencil. He noticed that she stopped poking him when he did so, much to his relief. 

You could have just passed up a note, you know, he wrote on the paper. What is it you wanted to tell me?

He passed the note behind him discreetly, glancing around. Most of the other students were either paying attention or completely zoned out. They didn't have any eyes on them. He felt Miko take the paper, take a slight pause to read it, before her pencil started rapidly scribbling. Jack looked up at the class board and tried to act like he was paying attention. He'd been lost for a few minutes now, having been distracted by his friend. 

After a minute, he felt her nudge his arm. He held back his hand, feeling the note quickly slip into his fingers. He glanced back at Miko, making sure she didn't look obvious. She winked at him and looked up to the front of the class, putting on a mock thinking face. He rolled his eyes slightly and placed the note on his desk. 

Jack glanced up to the front again, making sure the instructor was not suspicious of anything. His heart rate was raised slightly in nervousness, even though this certainly was not his first time passing notes. And it certainly would not be his last. Still, he was more anxious about getting caught than Miko ever was. She did not care what her host parents thought of her, or really what her biological parents from Japan thought of her either. Jack, on the other hand, hated letting his mother down. She already went through enough stress as it was. 

Miko cleared her throat behind him, snapping him out of his thoughts. Clearly, she was getting impatient. He felt both a little apologetic and still annoyed at her pestering. Biting the inside of his cheek, he opened up the note and quickly read it.
