Chapter Four:
The air around them had shifted. Something gave off a dangerous ambiance that couldn't be left unnoticed. Jake had his best fighters and trackers behind him, keeping a close eye on Caleb's direction as well his own protection-not that he needed any, but having more then two eyes were good to keep when there were humans regularly walking in the area.
Caleb led his Alpha and group among him to an unfamiliar building. His mates scent was fresh and lingering in the air. 'She's in there,' he growled, sending his Alpha his words through their telepathic bond (,also known as a mind link).
Alpha Jake swiped at Caleb's back leg and motioned with his head to get back behind the shrubs.
Out in the large clearing, where uncontrollable amounts of long grass sprouted out of the wet soil, was an old ancient brick building. Despite the large cobwebs occupying each one of the dusty window corners and splotches of moss hidden between the mass of bricks, the building had been revamped with incorporated advanced computer electronics-inside and out.
Jake put his snout high up in the air and segregated an unfamiliar stench amidst the rest of his pack. Human; was the first word that came to mind. The malodorous smell was intoxicating his senses and almost drove his wolf into a blood thirsty hysteria. Alpha Jake hated humans with a fiery passion.
'Shift.' Jake demanded bluntly to each of his fellow members through his pack mind link. With no objections, every male and female reverse-shifted back into their human forms, standing upright with no piece of clothing covering up any inch of their bodies.
No embarrassed or awkward looks crossed over their neutral faces. For shifters, this was a normal procedure. It was always a bother to carry around clothes as they would usually get forgotten when unexpected rivalries between pack wolves and rogues formed deep within the forests. Clothes were the least of their worries after either fleeing or winning a hot-tempered brawl.
Jake remained in his animal form and stilled. His snout finding its way back up into the air where he once again inhaled the disgusting miasma. Behind the multiple permanent stems branching from the ground, Jake navigated his way mutely behind the shrubbery, aware of all the thin twigs coating the forest ground.
The stench belonged to a longevous man who held a frown behind all the dark stubble across the bottom half of his face, inching up higher along his sideburns. The mans pensive eyes were focused on the cigarette settled between his creased fingers. As Jake had found the tearaway, there was no need to stay in his shifted form, so whilst he waited irritated for his pack members to make their way over to him, he remolded into his glorious human structure.
Everyone knew to keep their eyes trained on the ground as they approached their Alpha. It was a sign of respect and obedience.
'I want everyone to spread out along the perim-'
Before Jake finished his telepathic mind message, he was abruptly caught off guard when a door far off to the left opened and revealed two more men, chuckling among each other. This was just getting better and better. A devilish smirk formed on Jakes lips and mimicking his actions, inside he could feel his animal growing even more excited.
