It happened so long ago, I almost forgot it even happened.

"Bye mom, I'm heading out!" I waved, mom smiled at me and waved back.

"Be careful" She nodded. I walked out to the driveway and pulled out the keys to my motorbike. Putting on the helmet I drove off.

It isn't something you should forget about, after time it just seems like it was something so minor to me. My Father couldn't live with himself after he couldn't save me.

Arriving outside the restaurant I parked and locked up my helmet. Walking into the restaurant I came to a familiar face.

"Hi (y/n)! How have you been?" She spoke. She had light pink hair once, but over time the color changed but the traces of the pink were still there.

"Hi Mikki, I couldn't be better" I smiled, I sat my stuff down next to my chair and sat next to her, looking at the table at my other friends.

"Aren't you excited?" Ryland asked, jumping in his seat.

"Yeah, I guess" I shrugged.

"You haven't flown since you were a kid though? How can you not be excited?" Mikki asked.

"It's just not something I had really wanted to do again- if it wasn't for his donation I really wouldn't have cared" I shrugged, "plus healing takes a long time, even with the prosthetic I won't be able to use it for months"

"Sorry I'm late everyone" He spoke, the donator he was the number two pro hero. Hawks.

"It's fine, is that the new wing?" Mikki pointed, he had a bag in his hands.

"Yeah, the support company spent a lot of work on it. I was barely able to get them away from it, she called it her baby?" Hawks nodded, grabbing the bag and pulling out the wing.

"Woah, that's a rare metal, made by a quirk that hasn't been seen in years!" Ryland spoke, "it's lightweight but strong"

"This wasn't too expensive was it? I don't understand why you would want to make it so a total stranger could fly again" I laughed.

"I think those that can fly, should" Hawks smiled.

The dinner had ended, me and Hawks walked out into the parking lot.

"I'm guessing you didn't drive here" I stated, pulling out another helmet, and handing it to him.

He grabbed the helmet, and nodded, I got on my motorbike and he got on the back.

Twenty years ago when I was four years old I got in an accident. My apartment complex got mixed up in a villain attack.

"Daddy help me" I coughed, I looked behind at my wing, it had been completely caught in the rubble, I squirmed and tried to flap my other wing to get me out.

"Hold on (y/n), stop struggling" Father spoke, he crawled carefully through the rubble but the rubble was disturbed by my struggling and my fathers foot was caught under the concrete.

"Daddy! Mommy! Someone help!" I yelled, I struggled for what seemed like forever, until a hero who was the embodiment of hope came through.

"I am here" he spoke, he lifted the concrete off of my father carefully, but it just made it worse for me. Another piece of rubble fell on the same wing, closer to my back, cutting my wing off in an instant.

"(Y/n)!" Father yelled, coming to me quickly, he pulled me into him and held pressure on my wound, all might pulled us out of the rubble, and left us with the medics. They told me that my wing was permanently gone.

We arrived at the hospital. We got off the bike.

"Honestly why did they make me watch them eat" I complained, "can't eat before surgery and they chose that place anyways"

"I'm sure they meant well" Hawks chuckled, "no family members coming?"

"My dad is dead, and my mom has a work thing tonight" I sighed, he looked thrown off for a minute but lead the way into the hospital.

"Here is the prosthetic, and this is (y/n) (l/n) for her surgery" Hawks pointed, I waved at the receptionist.

"Sit over there" the receptionist pointed, we walked over to the waiting room seating.

"Are you staying for the surgery?" I questioned, he looked at me shook his head.

"I have to work soon, I will leave after they put you under, but I will be back in time for you to wake up" Hawks nodded.

"Thanks, I guess" I shrugged.

"(Y/n) (l/n)?" The Doctor called, we stood up and followed him and soon I was going under for surgery.

"Our insurance can only cover recovery costs, nothing that will help her fly again, she's basically quirkless now!" Dad yelled, I walked into the room.

"We can start a donation platform for a prosthetic" Mom suggested.

"It won't be enough" Dad spoke, he walked out of the room and patted me on the head as he left.

A few hours later we got the call. My father jumped into rush hour traffic and did not survive.

I came to after the surgery.

"The advised not to get up" Hawks warned.

"I wasn't expecting you to actually be here" I spoke, looking around the hospital room, gathering my surroundings. I tried to move the prosthetic, even the slightest bit but couldn't feel anything.

"Probably shouldn't try moving either, pain meds can only work so much" Hawks chuckled, he walked closer to me and got down to my level.

"I can't wait to see you fly again" Hawks smiled.

"Huh?" I questioned.

"I said I was going to help you fly, I'm going to re-teach you how" Hawks spoke.

"I thought you were just buying the prosthetic?" I questioned, he shook his head.

"I could of sworn I told you... Maybe you didn't get that text?" Hawks questioned, pulling out his phone and looking through his messages.

"Ah, I forgot to send it" Hawks shrugged.

A few months after the surgery Hawks showed me how to fly again.

"It works great with my other wing" I spoke, "thanks for helping me with my recovery"

"No problem, try flapping both wings at the same time, no more one at a time stuff" Hawks instructed. I opened up both wings and flapped them lightly before I was lifted off the ground, but quickly crashed.

"That was a nice try" Hawks laughed, flying over, and helping me up.

"I think there might be a weight difference" I stated, stretching out my wings.

"Well, you were able to get off the ground, how about you just take my hand. I will help guide you" Hawks offered, reaching for my hands. I placed my hands into his and started to fly again, this time he was able to correct my failure. Flying for the both of us. We flew over the city.

"It's beautiful" I spoke, Hawks looked at me.

"It sure is" He spoke, pulling me closer to him, placing a kiss on my forehead.

"Huh?" I froze, my wings stopped and he held me even closer, to prevent me from falling.

"You need to keep flapping your wings" Hawks chuckled, I corrected myself.

"What was that?" I questioned, looking him in the eyes. I watched a slight color change in his face.

"I like you, (y/n)" Hawks admitted, I looked at him confused.

"How?" I questioned, "we have only know each other for a year"

"What? Only a year? Because to me it feels like I have known you forever" Hawks smiled, I blushed and realized what this awkwardness I had felt this whole time actually was.

"I like you too" I confessed, pulling him closer, and kissed him. He was shocked at first but we soon melted into the kiss, two birds finally finding each other after a rough life.
