Its true!
Time and tide waits for no one. Before she could realize, it had been six months since her marriage and she was now living in a different home.
It was politely, a strange experience for her. Jackson was never not busy, his mother was not easily readable and Vivian stayed in the hostel, but never came out of his room when he was home. God knows what he was doing all the time.
First month was the busiest. Many new people, lots of fake smiles, unintentional mistakes that pissed off Lizzy ,new responsibilities, and expectations. Jewel found it real hard to understand her mother-in-law.
The day after her uneventful first night, when she woke up, Jackson was leaving for work. It was 8.30 in the morning.
"Why didn't you wake me up?" She hurried and asked Jackson
"I knew you were tired." He replied with a smile. How sweet! That's what she had thought on the first week. There was no need for her to wake up that early!!! Third day onwards, Jewel went back to hospital. Their respective careers were making them turn into early birds. She had to report to hospital by 7.30 am to make sure the reports are ready as they have to start giving them out by 8.30. Once she reaches there, Jewel was always on her toes unlike what her family thought.
Seminars, classes for undergraduate students, histopathological examination of biopsies which took hours to complete and form a diagnosis, cross-checking them with her proffessor, disposing the reports, getting her assignments done...... She was busy as well.
Her work was not something that could wait. Someone's future depended on the reports they gave. Someone could have been praying whole week for the report to be negative, someone could be expecting a heartbreaking diagnosis! People waited for them and Jewel understood that pain. When she reach back home, it would have been late night. She was too tired for chores.
Still, one day,as an allegedly good daughter-in-law, she volunteered to cook dinner. Jackson ate all of it. Must have been right his taste.
However, Lizzy told her to just rest and leave cooking to her and their maid since that day.
In the mornings, Jackson dropped her off to work. He had even cooked breakfast for her. Toast and eggs. They were yum. Somedays, Jackson came early from work while somedays he couldn't make it back till early morning.
They went to few relatives house for dinner and bonded a bit with them. Jackson's aunt was a fun woman till she got too personal.
" How is he in bed?" Jewel choked when his aunt asked her that question. Mira told her that newly wed women often get intrusive questions from people who think they are very important in the couple's life.
She didn't let any of that bother her, though, they didn't get much time for anything. One month went by and Jewel started to get a little gist of her life with in-laws.
Lizzy- Strong yet overprotective and maybe possessive about Jackson. She had deduced that much about Lizzy in a month. Also, she doesn't want her daughter-in-law to make her proud or anything.. She jut wants her to make Jackson's life easier.
Whenever she had time and energy Jewel tried her best to involve in chores but Lizzy always stopped her. Their standards of cleanliness and house maintenance was different from Jewel's.
Who mops the whole house every two days!!!! Changing curtains every week and even obsessively cleans carpets frequently!!!!
Yet, Jewel tried her level best to understand and get validation from her mother-in-law.Maybe, that's were she made the first mistake. She shouldn't have obsessed about getting into her mother-in-law's good books... but should have tried to understand her husband first. Maybe find time to talk to him more...spend time with him!
