Slow Steps

It was exactly six o'clock in the morning and I was already settled in Chaeyoung's apartment waiting to get some of the promised attention. I got here twenty minutes ago, I don't know how or why, but I managed to get out of bed with the sun and say good morning to the birds, I was so stupidly happy. I looked like a happy child, despite not liking that uncontrolled smile and that childlike aura that surrounded me, I was starting to adapt to the idea of seeing myself like this more often. It wasn't that bad.

I was sitting on the couch in the living room waiting for Chaeyoung to finish an important call with her mother, which, by the way her voice rose and fell all the time, I could tell was not a good thing. I dropped my head on the backrest behind me and remembered the day I met her mother, that snake project, rich and stupid. What were the chances that Chaeyoung was actually her daughter? Because it's not possible that something so wonderful could come out of that, or worse, have similar parts in the DNA.

I heard a grunt beside me and turned my face to face disappointment personified. Good to know I wasn't the exclusive target of Miss Gain's rudeness.

- What happened? - I asked afraid I was getting into a forbidden area.

- My mom - she sighed making her way over to me. - sometimes she is overprotective and ends up suffocating me with the precautionary measures she takes.

- What did she do?

- She's traveling and she doesn't want me to go to the appointment at the hospital alone, she wants me to reschedule so she can go with me.

- Well, I hate to admit it, but she's kind of right. - I was really hating to admit it. - I also don't think it's best for you to go alone, even more so for a situation like that. It would be better if you were with someone.

- Mina, it's just one more check. I don't need anyone there with me, I'm not a kid anymore - she stamped her foot and I swore I saw a pout almost form on her lips.

- You're a kid - I laugh making her even more irritated. - Seriously, you are!

- Can you shut up too? If not, I'm going to sew your lips together. - She threw the phone beside me and undid the path to grab something.

- I was going to say you're a morning person, but I just changed my mind - I joked, following her with my gaze. I never tired of admiring how fast she was at moving around that apartment.

- Since we are talking about parents, how is your mother? You never talk about her. - My smile automatically faded.

- There's not much to talk about. - I shrugged settling myself on the couch when I saw her come back to me, now with her hands full.

- Long story?

- Long story. - I smiled assimilating her comment and adjusted myself watching her do the same on the coffee table in front of me. Poor eyesight didn't seem to be a problem for her, her hands quickly running from the small cotton bag to the medicine bottle, from the medicine to the cotton swab.

- Marco - she said turning to me and stopping as if expecting something.

- What? - I asked without understanding and then she huffed bringing her hand through the air until she found my chin and cupped my cheeks with her fingertips.

- You do not know how to play.

As she bent down, she pulled me forward. Her other hand hovered a little bewildered and cautious, calculating her next move. A fear of it hitting my eye rising quickly. I took her hand and brought it to my mouth, touching the tip of the cotton swab exactly to the bruised spot, letting her do the rest.

It was funny to see her so determined to take care of me when everything about her asked otherwise. I snarled low at the first slide of it over the wound, the grimace I made was sure to make her laugh and I smiled just imagining it. My eyes wandered over her face until they focused on her mouth, right in front of me, a well of martyrdom and desire for me. Perfectly pinky lips beckoning me in for a kiss.
