It had been six years since her father had been murdered. That old case which felt like an eternity to solve now seems like an open and shut case. After graduating college Naomi had found a wonderful agency to take her in after the entire disaster; that was three years ago. Throughout those years her skills as a detective had grown immensely.
Naomi sits at her laptop immersed in her work. Sighs and hums leave her lips as she finishes the paperwork of her newest case. Another day, another case. Most of which are of theft. How she wished her boss would give her a different case, preferably one of murder. Not to say that she wanted someone to die but cases, especially those of murder, paid better. Naomi pauses the clicking of keys stopping with her. She scanned over the current state of her documents as she sipped her coffee. Not a single mistake. Good she'd hate to have to do it again.
Days passed slowly now that her case was solved. The hours blended into one another as she sat solemnly at her desk, bored out of her mind. She was only jostled from her thoughts when a male coworker came bounding down the hall to her cubicle. Naomi poked her head out from beyond the wall and recognized the man as Lucas.
Lucas was least uptight out of all her coworkers. He was said to be the calmest man you'd ever meet. Now looking at him, that was not the case. His hair was disheveled and clothes wrinkled from running. The look of horror on his face was unmistakable.
Naomi quickly yet carefully set down her cup, preparing for the worst. Lucas takes a minute to catch his breath, once he is finished he begins to speak.
"Detective Patterson," He starts. "We have found the body of a young woman in the woods. The Chief has requested that you work on this case."
Before Naomi could even formulate an answer, or a single word for that matter, Lucas had gently coaxed her out of her seat. He took her back down the hall, to the parking lot, and into one of the many cars.
Both of them buckled up as Lucas started the car. Naomi could only imagine how awful the scene was if it had thrown the calmest man into a panic. It must have been brutal.
