The secretary said the chief wants to see me...in his office now... Am I in trouble?
I just had another unsuccessful talk with my captain, where I tried to ask for more responsibility than just writing parking tickets.
And yet 'ms. Miller, the only thing a woman is good for in the force is meter duty!' Such a douche. But what does the chief himself want?
"Captain Jones? I'm off to see the chief. They called me in," I said.
"What for, officer Miller?" Asks the captain.
"Didn't specify...sir."
"Huh...Maybe he's finally come to his senses for having a girl such as YOU in our precinct."
What's that supposed to mean? A girl like ME? Goodness, how I loathe this man!
"I guess I'm about to find out...sir."
"No need to come by and say your farewells on your way out..."
"Wouldn't dream of it, sir. Hopefully, the chief has other plans for me, those that do not include YOUR opinions."
"We'll see."
I walk out as captain Jones huffs and ducks back into his office. I hurried upstairs to the police chief's office. I knocked on the chief door before entering his office.
"There you are, Miller. Come on in. Sit," Chief said.
"Thank you, sir," I said.
Chin high, shoulders back, I took a sit in the chair in front of his desk, going for a cool demeanor when you're anything but. My heart is pounding, and my palms are sweaty.
"I'll cut straight the chase-you know I don't like to beat around the bush," said the chief.
"Of course, sir," I said.
"How would you like to get off the streets and meter duty and do some actual police work?"
Did I hear him right? Is this the chance I've been waiting for? To prove myself? My heart takes off in a completely different direction.
"Oh, wow... Yes, sir! I would love to!"
"Excellent! In a couple of days, you'll be doing some undercover work for us."
"So fast? Don't I have to go through some training?"
"You'll get a crash course from your handler, but we need someone for this case ASAP."
It's like a dream come true! Of course, I'm in! I wonder what I will be doing...
"You can count me in, sir!"
The chief throws me a folder across the desk. And had the word "Top secret."
"Take this..."
It feels heavy...
"But I need to know you are fully on board before we read you in on the case. Mainly what your cover will be..."
I'm curious about that as well... Will I infiltrate a gang? An office? Or maybe even-
"You'll be working at 'zoara club as a waitress and...a potential dancer."
