The apartment was silent, a ticking clock in the kitchen the only noise to be heard- then a loud pounding on the door broke the quiet, several loud bangs of a fist striking hardwood. This was followed by several moments of quiet- then the pounding resumed. Another delay, then a final volley of bangs, these harder, more insistent, and going on longer. When these, too, went unheeded, there was a sound of muffled swearing from the other side, followed by a loud thump of something heavy being set down, then the sound of jingling keys.

The door finally swung open, and a deeply annoyed Ace stuck his head in. "HELLO?!" he shouted. There was still no reply. Grumbling, the ice dragon reached over and picked up a heavy guitar case with a grunt, carrying it inside and setting it down before backing up a few steps to slam the door shut. Once it was locked, he turned and started searching through the apartment for the other occupants- but all he found were empty rooms. "Oh, what the fuck, guys?!" he demanded out loud.

This last outburst served to dry out an already-parched throat, and he stalked off to the kitchen to grab some water. As he headed toward the fridge, he caught sight of a piece of paper on the counter, and diverted course to read it.

Ace,

Sorry, we wanted to wait for you, but Tay had to get moving, and since he's the one who scored us the reservation, we had to go with him or risk losing it. We'll make sure to bring some food back for you, and next time we go out, it's on me, okay? We'll be back at some point tonight.

Don't wait up, though- if I'm taking Asim out, I'm gonna try to make it last. ;)

-Jackie

Ace read the note over three times, before sighing deeply. He'd felt an initial surge of anger, but it very quickly subsided to a sort of tired sadness. "Perfect ending to a perfect goddamned day..." he muttered. He turned to grab his water from the fridge- and only then noticed a second note pinned to it.

Ace- I wanted to wait for you, but Jackie and Tayang were insistent on getting moving. Jackie in particular seemed desperate for me to go. If I had to guess, I think she's worried about being poisoned, and I can't in good conscience let her worry all night. We'll be home when she's had her fill. Take care!

-Asim

In spite of himself, Ace couldn't help but smile at his friend's naivete, but the blip of joy faded quickly. He opened the fridge and grabbed a water, cracking it open and chugging the thing before crushing the bottle and firing it into the recycling, then ambling out to the living room, where he collapsed onto the couch.
