Chapter 14
Jackson's POV
The moment she walked out of the diner, I knew I had screwed up. She was gone by the time I got to my car. I abandoned Sapphire at Mcglarins to go find her. I searched everywhere for Ava, her apartment, her favorite bar, even Keeley's house. Boy was that an awkward conversation to have. After some negotiation she told me that Ava had contacted her and told her she was going to her parents house on Long Island. Keeley gave me the address to their house and sent me on my way. The drive felt like hours as I argued with myself on what I should say. I'm sorry? But I did nothing wrong. Do I just explain everything?
I arrived at the address I was given and was awed by what I saw. The house was huge with its own gates and everything. It had a huge lawn with perfectly cut grass. The house was a mix of stone and some other material I couldn't make out at such a distance.
"Close your mouth, you might catch flies." A female voice from behind me said. I turned to see an older lady standing in front of me. She looked identical to Ava, except for her features were softer while Ava's were sharp.
"Can I help you young man?" She asked.
"Um yeah, actually I am looking for Ava Collins. My names Jackson" I started but she interrupted me.
"Bates! Jackson Bate, the boy dating my daughter. She just went out for a run but will be back. Why don't you come inside for some lemonade." She grabbed my arm and dragged me into the house before I could protest. The inside was just as beautiful as the out. It had beautiful marble walls with family pictures. One picture that caught my eye was of Ava as a little girl. She had bleach blonde hair that was covered by a backwards baseball hat. She had on a cute pink dress and in her small hands she had a big baseball glove. The smile on the little girls face could cheer even the saddest persons day. Something about the picture struck me and made me feel even worse. I entered the kitchen and sat down at the island. Ava's mom set a glass of lemonade down in front of me and took a seat.
"My baby girl was pretty upset when she came home today." She said taking a sip from her glass.
"You got anything to do with that?"
"Actually I probably do ma'am" In the middle of my answer the sliding door opened and Ava stepped in. She was wearing a bright green patterned sports bra and black running shorts.
"Hey mom, I'm back." She called going over to get a glass. She seemed almost calm after her run. It was hard not to look over her body, it should be illegal to show that much skim
"You have a visitor sweetie." her mother called to her snapping me from my thoughts. Ava whirled around to face me, I gave her a small smile. Immediately her face turned to stone as we connected eyes.
"I'm going to my room mom. Don't let the door hit him on the way out" She said the last part sarcastically and stormed out. I jumped out of my chair and followed her out the door. She was quick though and ran down the halls, she made several sharp turns before disappearing from sight. I was completely lost in this big house. Someone opened a door behind me and I turned to see Marcus standing in front of me.
"Bates, what are you doing here?" His voice was hard with anger but his face was void of emotion.
"I'm here trying to find your sister, but she disappeared somewhere around here. We had a misunderstanding and I want to clear things up."
"She just wants to be alone. That's why she came here. Never in a million years would I imagine you chasing a girl down, over a misunderstanding."
