— STARS TO BURN OUT (2023)

✶  A moment of lacking sanity, and so Lyra Black had gone and screwed everything up.

Ironic was it not? She was named after a constellation illuminating the shaded night skies, for once she had been looked upon as a star burning bright: expected to re-write history of the Noble house of Black. From maniacally evil, to gentle and kind. From fated death eaters, to fighting for the right cause. Her father had expected the world of her, but then her eyes glimmered with determination and her smile curved in a manner which was oh so familiar to him whom he'd rather forget about all together, and then she belonged to Slytherin rather than the house of crimson and gold.

Then she suddenly reminded him too much of her mother; one measly strike of resemblance to the woman who had once betrayed his trust, and so Sirius had enough and turned his back on her.

One.

Two.

Three.

     And he was gone.

It could be assumed to have been written in the skies from the very beginning: the Noble house of Black was forever cursed, and as one of two remaining legitimate heirs, she should have known family is not to be relied on. A father is not to be trusted.

Words of rejection had been enough for the innocence of childhood to come crashing and burning: for the child of light to stray and be tainted by the darkness. Lyra Black sealed her fate with magically conjured ink carved into skin by a man with inhumanly red eyes. Tears painting pictures across her face, she signed her own certificate of death by pledging her loyalty, ridding herself of free-will: by becoming what she once swore to destroy.

After all, no matter the comfort of constellations above a terrifyingly cruel world, light will not remain naively sparking forever.

Stars are constant, but will always burn out.
