Tim walked into the bar and over to join his new team.

The group of them pause a moment looking up at their new boss.

A stranger.

They had invited him out to get a feel for who he was and how he intended to lead them. He had done great during the job they were on earlier. The hostage was recovered and the team made it out uninjured.

They could see why he had been chosen.

They had been talking about it before he entered the bar. They questioned why he hadn't wanted to join metro before now, given his military and leadership experience.

They heard a rumor about conflict of interest within his command and figured it had something to do with a woman. But they also heard he was taking the position as their Sergeant after already moving to a desk job. They couldn't fathom ever taking a boring ass desk job for any woman.

"Hey Sarg. didn't think you would make it" One of the team leaders says shaking Tim's hand

The group spread out and pulled in another chair.

"Yeah, I just had to make a quick call" Tim says with a genuine but still nervous smile

"Tell the wife you'd be late?" The man siting across from him says in a joking manner

"Something like that"

Tim smiles thinking about how Lucy just spent the last 20 mins on the phone with him, while he was outside the bar sitting in his truck, preparing himself to go be social.

He wishes she was coming out with him tonight.

She always knows what to say. He knows she is right though, he needs to do this on his own.

"I'm mean how else are you going to trust them in the field if you don't get to know them? You never know you may even make a new best friend" Lucy tells Tim trying to show support.

"You're right, I'll talk to you in the morning."

Even though he wishes they were waking up together he knew it was going to be an early morning for her.

He is about to hang up the phone when he pauses.....  almost saying the words he has been saying with his eyes and in his actions for so long.

But instead he says "Lucy, I.....I am such a lucky man. And I cant thank you enough for never giving up on me. You are my BEST FRIEND and I...." He sighs " Goodnight Lucy".

"Good night Tim".

Pulling himself back to the present Tim speaks again.

"Today went pretty well" attempting to break the ice.

One of them  gets up from the table and  heads to the bar, he looks to Tim and says "Yeah, I remember what it was like when I first joined" He shook the empty beer and motioned an offer for Tim if he would like one as well.

Tim appreciated the gesture and shook his head. "Sure, Thank you"

"Change can be good" The Lieutenant says with a smile.

"The hours are killer" The man returning from the bar says  handing Tim his beer. " but, they fly by so fast, half the time I don't even realize what day it is."

"I'm guessing its hard on the family life?" Tim's question directed at Mickey

"Yes" He replies " five divorces between the eight of us"

"Six out of nine now I suppose" Tim replies while taking a sip of his beer.

"Yeah, divorce is tough" he continues
