Draco's POV
If you love something, let it go.
That's what I told myself when I left, that this was being done out of love.
I might have made a lot of mistakes in the past, and I might not have been able to fix them all. But this, this was something I could do. If there was a chance that I could ease even a fraction of the pain I knew was plaguing her, then I would do it.
There was no doubt in my mind.
It was clear that no one cared where I went, whether or not I went all across Europe and back. But I was at the point that no one else's opinions mattered anymore.
I had to do this to make her see the truth.
It was my last hope.
The anger for my father had increased tenfold since leaving. We weren't able to get him out of the house that horrible night like Mary had hoped, but my mother had left at least. Leaving us to clean up her mess, of course.
Even with my mother no longer around to ruin things, I knew he was taking care of her. Tending to her and nursing her back to health. But I reminded myself that what I was doing was something bigger, something that would trump all the time he was getting with her.
And as much as I was doing this for her, which I was, every time I touched those remaining sore spots on my neck from when my own father tried to kill me, a surge of fury pulsed through me. The bruises were a reminder, they were encouraging me to get my revenge, to make him suffer.
And that was what I planned to do.
And how I ended up on the doorstep of the Lockland family's Manchester home.
I knocked twice on the white peeling door of their brick home, waiting for someone to open the door.
After a minute passed by, I almost knocked again when the door suddenly swung open to reveal a much older looking Maisy Lockland.
"Hello?" the woman greeted annoyed.
"Hello, Mrs.Lockland. I'm Draco Malfoy, pleasure to meet you," I said with a charming smile and a hand outstretched. "I went to school with your daughter, would she happen to be here?"
The woman smiled with a flirty toss of her hair and closed the door slightly. She yelled out Maisy's name and I heard footsteps coming.
"Nice to meet you, Mr.Malfoy. Ignore my daughter's attitude. She's a beastly child," the woman muttered.
"Jesus mom, I was coming," Maisy grumbled approaching the door.
Her mother gave me another suggestive look before heading back inside the house.
Maisy, the spitting image of her mother, looked wearily at me before stepping all the way outside with me and closing the door behind her.
"What the fuck are you doing here, Malfoy?"
Wow, what a warm welcome.
"Thank you, Maisy, just as demeaning as I remembered. How've you been? Enjoying life outside of Hogwarts?"
She crossed her arms across her chest and rolled her eyes at me.
"Is that supposed to be some snide remark about me leaving school last year?"
"If you took it as such, that says more about you than it does me. But no, I didn't come here just to annoy you."
She eyed me up and down, pursing her lips. "Okay, what is it then?"
