The waves gently rocked Cove as he held his upper half above water. His tail swayed with the water, bumping into the rock with each crash. He stared up at the sky and the clouds and sighed, tilting his head down against his hand as he squeezed his eyes shut. He'd been confined to the water since he was young, but he dreamed of flying with the harpies and dragons who never even looked at him.
Flapping was heard near him, and his ear twitched slightly as he heard a harpy dunk its talons into the water and come back up with a fish. The nearby flock had never preyed on the mer, thankfully, so he ignored the bird. He listened to it fly away, and quietly wished he could go with them. As he opened his eyes and looked around him, his gaze trailing to the trees near the shore. There was a small group of harpies gathered on a large branch. They seemed like a small family, though he knew the group wasn't related. There were two adults, a happy couple. They were both female, and they seemed to have adopted two other harpies as their own. He watched as an orange tinged harpy spoke rather loudly with her family, the purple feathered one next to her remained quiet, a smile on her face. Cove smiled a little at the group, wishing he had more than just his father around.
He sighed as he pushed himself off the rock, falling backwards into the water. He took one final breathe of air as he fell, and sank as he exhaled, his gills taking in the water. As he hung upside down, he could see his father searching for him as he always did whenever he had disappeared. He sighed as he turned himself upright and swam over, disappointed that he knew he couldn't watch the skies longer.

RomanceBased on a singular line from Cove's wiki page that says if he was a merman he'd be fascinated with the sky and want to fly. That's it. (Stupid slapped together cover it's whatever)
