The television played as she laid on the couch asleep. She had been there since 4 pm as she waited for her parents to call her back. They had left for their vacation two days beforehand leaving their daughter home all by herself.
Iris came back to her childhood home in the town she desperately tried to leave. When the tragedy struck that all her goods were stolen by a stranger whom wouldn't get caught, she called her parents.
Her family never approved of her decisions as a child all the way up to now, as she got older they became increasingly harsh on her. Iris knew they wanted her to be safe and protect her, but she was always her own person. When she left after graduating high school at 18, she moved to New York yearning for a new start.
Iris was only 22 when she returned to her dreadful town. She was anxious of what her parents would say about her being an idiot and leaving her door unlocked in a shitty apartment complex. It was all she could afford only working 6 hour shifts daily at local diners and small chain restaurants.
Typically her parents would over react about her future, but they allowed her to stay at their house for a couple of weeks since she had no other place to go. No friends, no siblings, money or food, they allowed her to get back up on her feet as long as she listened to them. Its like Iris was their teen daughter again, longing to have fun. She would go to shops and steal stuff with her friends, sneak out and get drunk whilst partying with people nearly double their age. She was drawn to this life only wanting to rebel against her own parents.
Even though Iris did stuff her parents disliked, she would study hard, yet cheating was an option, she really wanted to become a nurse at a hospital, helping deliver babies to their mothers and fathers. She always wanted kids since she was 7, as her grandmother had gifted her a baby doll of a precious blue eyed baby girl. Her and her family all had brown eyes, her grandmother knew that one day her husband would have the most amazing bluest eyes the earth has ever seen.
Iris wanted to get married, yet she could never find the perfect love. They would be handsome yet a terrible personality with made her get the ick. Sometimes they were insane or just boring to be around. She decided to take a break after graduating, needed to save up for the large fee of the nursing college. Her parents offered to pay for the tuition, textbooks, and student loans but Iris believed that she could pay for it all on her own, knowing that she worked hard to get here and she was gonna make it through. She worked many jobs back in New York to save up for the costs of her education.
The girl worked hard all summer long to pay for her courses. It was all very stressful but she managed to make it through all of the mess. When she was robbed, the thief had taken her wallet which had all her cards and identification in it.
While missing her own television, computer, cds, money and jewelry; she was also taken of her hope. She broke down that night letting it all come crashing down, being all the heartbroken , long shifts and stress from school. Iris called her parents telling them the bad news, she was grateful when they allowed her to stay.
As she was in her hometown, she ran into a couple of friends, old neighbors, and classmates in the usual community places, such as markets, libraries, and the park. Iris would catch up on their life and she would tell them what happened in the 3 years she had been gone for. Telling them what happened to her apartment made them pity her, in which she disliked for the most part, but luckily somebody other then her parents cared.
Iris went around town looking for a quick job at diners, boutiques, and the bar. She had brought her résumé to these places, and they told her they would call her if she got the job. In her luck, she was able to get two out of three jobs. The bar declined her due to her being just a big too young to work there.
