Mias POV:
'It's been lovely, really, and I'm so glad to have met you all today.' I insisted, saying goodbye to a few of the boys at the door of the restaurant.'Aren't you coming to the party?' Lewis frowned.
'I didn't want to intrude.' I responded, realising how stupid it sounded once I'd said it.
'No, you should come.' Charles said, from the doorway.
I hadn't noticed him there until he spoke, but I couldn't tear my eyes from him. He has his arm against the doorframe, muscles flexed as he balanced against it.
'Well, I guess I'll see you tonight then.' I responded,
Lando came up behind me and grabbed me by the sides, tickling me and almost making me fall to the floor in defence.
'You're such a fucking idiot.' I laughed, pushing him away from me.
'Race to passenger seat?' He offered.
'Good try, but you know Daniel will make you get out even if you do beat me.' I responded.
'Being the least favourite is hard, Lando.' Lewis laughed, pulling me into one last hug.
'Just because you know you'll lose.' Lando teased, ignoring his friend.
'Oh what the fuck? Tiger woods?' I exclaimed, holding in my laugh as he span in the direction I was looking, giving me the perfect opportunity to run off ahead.
By the time he noticed I was joking, I was halfway to the car, his shouting being outweighed by the boys laughter. I made it to my brothers car just in time, jumping into the passenger seat and turning to Daniel.
'Lock the doors?'
'What?' He laughed.
I leant over him and locked the back doors, laughing as Lando tried the handle, and it didn't open. Daniel got the gist, driving forwards slowly, watching as Lando walked after the car, completely over it.
After a few moments of torture, Daniel let him in, both of us doubled over in laughter at the annoyed look on his face.
'You. Are the devil in disguise.' He said, pointing at me, only half joking.
'Let's get home, I've got to get ready for this party.' I responded, ignoring Lando's glares from the backseat.
'You don't need to. It would be cool if you just went in a pair of jeans and a hoodie.' Daniel shrugged.
'It's a party, not a book club.' I responded, as if he'd offended me.
'Just a suggestion.' He muttered.
'So are we or are we not going to talk about that conversation with Pierre?' Lando asked, breaking the silence.
'We're not.' Me and Daniel said, at the same time.
I was surprised that was my brothers reaction. I was sure that hedve been itching to ask what he had to say. I knew he was deep down. He just didn't want to seem invasive.
'What did he say, Mia?' Lando asked, softly, trying to keep the energy neutral.
Daniel's hands gripped the steering wheel tighter for just a brief second, and I tore my eyes away from them both, back to the road, before I answered.
'He said that he was sorry for what he put me through, and he wishes he was more faithful.' I said, trailing off as I finished my sentence, hoping they'd not hear it.
'Fuck, Mia, I'm sorry.' Lando sighed.
'So it was true?' Daniel questioned.
'I'm assuming it was true.' I confirmed.
'I'm so so sorry that you had to find out now. I don't think he could've had worse timing.' Daniel said, reaching over to give my hand a reassuring squeeze.
'I'm okay, we ended years ago, honestly I'm fine.' I assured him.
'You don't sound fine.'
'Daniel, I don't want anyone to know about this, okay? I know you're gonna have negative feelings towards him but I don't want to impact the grid before I've even stepped foot on it.' I said, firmly.
He looked at me for a few seconds, before letting a smile spill onto his face, shaking his head softly as he parked his car in the garage.
'What?' I frowned.
'You've always been so selfless.'
'I mean it, I don't want anything ruining your chances of becoming champion this year.' I said firmly.
'Yes boss.' He saluted, getting out of his seat before walking around to open my door, letting me out.
Lando opened his door just moments later, and Daniel pushed it closed, earning a middle finger from his friend.
'I wish you treated me the way you did your sister.' Lando complained.
'Really? Because he's got me on a short leash.' I laughed.
'I'm not THAT protective.' Daniel insisted.
I looked up at him with amusement on my face and he rolled his eyes, knowing not to argue as his case was most definitely a lost one.
'Get inside, you.' He insisted, pushing me lightly into his house.
I headed upstairs to my room, the one that Daniel always had ready for whenever I wanted to come over. I had all of my clothes there, knowing I would've needed them to pack, if I got the job.
I packed before I got ready, I knew if I didn't do it before I went out, it would be a scramble in the morning.
'Mia! We're going in 20!' Daniel shouted.
'I've only just finished packing!' I responded.
'You're fucking serious.' Lando grumbled, his footsteps getting louder as he walked towards my room, knocking on it rapidly.
'Go away, Lando, or I'll be late.' I called.
'Max got you a 2 million pound watch and you're gonna thank him by being late? I don't think so. Hurry up.' He teased, heading back downstairs before I got chance to shoot him a cocky reply.
I put on the first dress that caught my eye, picking a pair of black heels to match, and taking my hair out of the plaits they were in, fluffing my hair up until it was wavy.
I was already wearing makeup from the meal, and decided to replace my nude lipstick with a red one, putting it into my purse if I was to need a top up throughout the night.
I took a deep breath. And the 2022 season begins.
