CHAPTER 1
I couldn't stay here. They would find me. I went to wipe away my tears, only to find I had shed none.
A stick broke in the distance. I had to leave now.
Quickly, I kicked off my heels, then picked them up. I scanned the area once then ran away.
I never looked back. I couldn't. I would be reminded of the nightmare that I was living.
My black dress snagged on thorns and branches that I ran past. I didn't care. There was nothing to care about anymore. Except Rowan.
My heart cried for him. The tears came. I refused to stop. I didn't try to wipe them away.
My breath became sharp. My sides cramped. I slowed to a walk. I looked at my new surroundings. I was still in the woods. But the trees had changed.
These trees looked older and less friendly. If trees could look friendly. I tossed my heels down. I would never need them again.
I rumbled through my pack as I walked. I pulled out an apple. At first I took small careful bites, but my hunger overcame me and I finished it off within seconds.
If Rowan was still here he would make me eat slowly. I frowned. He isn't here, and he might not even be alive. Stop! I had to have faith in him, he was all I cared about. If he died then there would be no hope my life. I might as well let them catch me and stop this chase.
A small bubbling creek twisted into my path. The cool water felt good on my hot feet. I looked down and saw a reflection. I couldn't believe it was mine. I saw a girl with a dirt smudged face. With hair blonde hair in a messy ratted ponytail. I only recognized the necklace lacing my neck. It had a silver S dangling down in the middle. S was for Sasha, my name.
I touched the charm, it was impossible not to think about him. I needed to find him. Before they hurt him.
