Getting Messed Up

Breathing hard, I wake up in a white-washed room with scientists surrounding me. "She's awake! Finally awake. Hey, you. Get up!" All the scientists yell at me. I get up, still dazed. "Where am I? Why are you- Ow!- What are you doing!" I yell out. The scientists mutter to each other while pushing me around. I have enough room to see that there is about thirteen scientists in the white-washed room. I get pushed on a bed face-down and feel people staring at my back. My face goes pink because I forgot that on my back there was cool yet feathered wings printed on meant to last three days. It's only been two. "Ahhh, you have a teh-mm-pour-air-EE Tah-too!" A scientist says, trying her best to sound out a human term.

After I am done laughing about what the slow scientist said, I look around at the scientists. I smile at the jail-like bed. "So. What weird experiments are you going to do to me?" I ask, happy. The scientists pause from their low whispering. I can feel their eyes burning into the side of me.

"Every experiment that we've had success with, you get." A scientist says just as another enters. "I have the results of which experiments are a success. There's all the physical and mental 'powers' as humans call it. There's wing flight, elemental 'powers', morphing into anything a Saran has seen before, and ultra-memory." I blink. "That's a lot of successful things. Can I chose?" I ask. "I'm not done. I still need to state the side-effects that some Saran's encountered with these things. The physical and mental 'powers' have no side-effects besides major headaches from time-to-time. Wing flight's side-effects are that the Saran gets hungry and thirsty faster. Elements side-effects are not visible as of yet. But it's hard to control the element at first, making the Saran's 'power' uncontrollable for a few months, sometimes showing the emotion of the Saran. Morphing Saran's eat what the animal eats at the time, but can't unmorph until the food's digested otherwise they get very sick. Ultra-memory's side-effects are some Saran's can't handle the memory." The scientist says quietly.

I sigh in relief, smiling. "That's good. Nothing life-threatening. Not too much for me to handle. What do you do when the patient ace's their powers?" I ask. "No one has aced their powers." A scientist says. "What will you do when I ace mine?" I ask, genuinely curious.

The scientists laugh in unison. "This is just John's revenge. You have no chances of being able to do this." The scientist who tried pronouncing temporary tattoo says, still laughing. "What do you mean?" I ask. "You are too soft, sweetie." A guy with blond hair says. I frown, getting serious. I sit up, holding a blanket to my chest to hide my embarrassing kitten bra.In my cold-calculating mode, I smile coldly. "You have no idea what I've been through. How about a deal? If I do ace my powers, you all give up something important. If I fail, you can do whatever with me and my family. That's only if I fail. What will you Sarans give if I don't fail?" I say seriously. They all laugh harder. "Ha! If you, the most incompatible Saran, ace's your 'powers', I would give my life." A scientist chokes out in between laughing. They all agreed with her. I smile a deadly smile. "Can't wait to get your blood on my hands. Perhaps I'll torture you before I kill you." I laugh like a maniac, laying back down on my stomache. Silence follows.

I wait a bit before asking, "Was my impression of John good?" Shifting back to my normal self. "Confident, then when someone goes against him, he turns crazy?" I ask, playing off my outburst. All the scientists laugh. Only Pete and John know the real me. Did Pete get a crush on my true self? My stronger, crazy self? Four years ago, when Pete was fifteen and John eighteen, I showed them how I really was so that if they stayed with me I would have true friends. "Close. Really close. Good one. You actually scared us." I laugh a true laugh. "I've been working on the laugh for years to get it correct." The scientists join in laughing with me. John fell in love with my shell. Who did Pete fall in love with?

John walked in. Silence. "Hey, John. Did you have to get Pete involved? I found out why he risked himself to save me. Let him go." I say to break the silence. John pretends he didn't hear that. I sigh. "Why were they laughing?" John asks. "I made a deal-slash-bet. That I'm going to lose." I state. John smiles. "Nice maniac laugh, by the way. Which powers did she get?" John says, talking to the scientists. "All physical and mental abilities, er, flying with wings, using the elementals, uhhhm, memory-morphing, and, um, ultra-memory." John laughs a laugh of joy. "All the carriers out! Only the men can work on her!" John orders, leaving the room with all the girls/carriers. All the men relax once the woman leave. John calls out something about anything... want... and me. A scientist sighs, going closer to me. "We are so not like that, Mr.White! Anyways, we need you to take off your bra, we need to see the wings on your back. Do you want the wings to look like this?" A scientist asks, gesturing towards my back. "Yes, actually. I'd prefer that. They look cool, right?" I say. You will be in more pain than if you had non-feathered wings." He adds. "Okay. I still want them." I mutter, lost in thought.

"Well, the procedures won't happen until next light, so I'll take you to your room." What looks like the youngest scientist says. I sigh, put on my shirt and get up. "K then. Let's go, I guess." He leads me out of the room and turns right. We walk a few minutes and I stop, thinking wait ... Um, what if he took John's 'advice'? The scientist turns around, "Yes, oh and my name is Goliare." Goliare states, smirking. I sigh walking forward. When at my room I tense. "Thank you. You can leave now."
"Not yet, I need to give you a tour through your room! He leads me into a big room with lots of beds, girls and guys alike in the room. Please just leave. Please. Goliare laughs. "Nope. Come on, let me show you your room!" I have a room? And you can read my mind? 'Yes, you do have a room. You are going to be a target for most people. There's rumor spreading that a new girl is going to lead their escape.' "What? Dude, how many new girls are coming this month?" I ask aloud. "Only you. In here." Leading me into a big room with black as the main theme and a very noticeable rainbow door. Nice, dark and embarrassing.(Rainbow is amazing) I glare at the bed. It was black with kittens dotted on it. The floor was blackwood. Walls were rainbow rimmed black. The ceiling was of the galaxy in color. You can leave now please. Goliare laughs again. "No. Now for some fun!" I sigh. Looking straight at Goliare, thinking about rainbows and unicorns, I quickly leap towards the door only to find it locked. "Ha! No, I locked it while you were observing your adorable room." I blush in embarrassment. Fuck him, it's amazingly cool. I think, trying to defend it but totally forgetting he could read my mind. He laughs. "Amazingly cool? Whatever. I haven't had fun in a while."
