Poppy is known as a shy and innocent young girl. But, only to her friends and family, who she is very friendly and loyal to.
Before being bitten by a radioactive spider, she was just a shy and discreet geek, who tried to somehow fit in among her peers at school. When she gets her powers from an experimental spider, she tries to try them out by participating in a wrestling tournament, while hiding her identity.
But, Poppy learned that her Uncle Ben had been murdered by a burglar he caught breaking into their house. Fueled by rage, Poppy dressed and confronted Ben's murderer.
She was about to kill him when she remembered her uncle's motto. Not wanting to dishonor Uncle Ben, Poppy stops the criminal and sends him to the cops.
Deciding to honor her uncle's memory, Poppy sets out to use her powers to help people, donning a fancy new costume and taking on the superhero alias of Spider-Woman. Poppy is still the shy, sweet, and innocent girl in the eyes of those around her.
But when she becomes Spider-Woman, she becomes a whole different person. Spider-Woman is sassy, fierce, and provocative, as she's endowed with a dry and cutting humor.
But, she still retains her heroism and morality. She is Harry Osborn's childhood best friend and love interest.
The two are practically inseparable and he is the only one she feels comfortable talking about her issues with. Even though deep down, she secretly has romantic feelings for him, which is reciprocated on Harry's side, too.
Poppy also tries hard to avoid Alistair Smythe, the son of Spencer Smythe, who has an unhealthy love obsession for her. Alistair constantly keeps on pursuing his "true love", despite Poppy absolutely showing no romantic interest in him.
