⟭ Chapter 2: Found ⟬It's been a while since we found the house. I've stopped keeping up at this point. It's been so long. Days, maybe weeks? I mean, Who's even been keeping track?
The sun was beaming through the window as I sat there on the bed trying my hardest to crack my memory to remember how long it's been since we've been on our own. I know for sure It's been about a week and a half since we've been living in this abandoned house and supplies are now running low.
We've gone out to the other houses a few times to look for supplies but we've had no luck as their mostly burned down and crawling with walking infections. Nora ran out of snacks before me so I had no choice but to give up the rest of my snacks so that she wouldn't starve to death. We sat there, hungry and thirsty, and I couldn't take this any longer. We can't just sit here and suffer. Either we die or we survive, and I don't wanna die on her. I can't die. Not yet.
I decided we needed to at least try to go look for more supplies in the houses further down the neighborhood. That meant we had to gather everything and abandon the house completely. There wasn't much left for us anyways. So, That's exactly what we did.
We gathered our stuff as me and nora walked around the house, searching and scanning the house for anything that was somewhat useful.
I searched room after room with no luck.
The only thing I came across was a small box. It was the only thing In the pink kids room that looked like it hadn't been through war. I picked up the rectangular box, lifting the lid to open it. Inside were two friendship bracelets, one black and one white that both had little words saying, "forever". It could've been steel, platinum, metal, maybe even titanium. I had no clue what the material was. But what I did know was that they were beautiful. I wanted them. I smiled softly as I took them out of the box, observing the inflexible loops, quickly closing the box back and shoving them into my pocket. I had no idea what I was going to do with them but I liked them, they gave me a bit of hope that we wouldn't be alone for as long as we survive. That I wouldn't go crazy all alone in this broken world.
Or maybe we would find a big group or community soon that would be willing to take us in for a while. At least while I figure everything out. I went back into the room that we had been staying in, grabbing all of our things and heading out on our way.

We walked down the quiet streets of a once active town. Looking for some place that looked somewhat alive. "Do you think we're gonna—die ruth?" Nora spoke quietly looking over to me as she squinted her eyes a bit, her head tilted down ever so slightly. "Hey, no don't say that nora." It saddened me to think that I've done all this to protect nora from the pain and have done so much to make her feel safe, only to find out that she's been thinking like this all along. She's loosing hope, and I need to stop that from happening. "We aren't gonna die." I can't say I was feeling confident myself that we were gonna survive but I clearly can't tell nora that.
