They all looked at him in disgust, thinking he must be a beginner. But little did they all know he was t h i r d in the country overall. he struts onto court with confidence showing off his high skills with precise actions he racks up the points claiming countless victories. With confidence he waits at the bench, not even practicing before tryouts or stretching in between games. Everyone can barely look at him knowing that they're standing in the presence of a mortal god. his aura intimated the others players his calm and collected nature, displaying no stress whatsoever. He won every game, he served at the perfect angle so the birdie would just skim the net, yet still making it past the white line. the white kids were astonished, dropping their mac and cheese and their jaws at his skill. the teachers impressed highly with his technique, immediately wanting him on the team. Then, just when he thought he had played all the games, a final challenge had appeared. Wanting to be victorious, he agreed without realizing what he said yes to.The final stage

everyone turned to watch their fast paced exhilarating match. the birdie flying back and forth neither one giving up, both wanting to beat the other.
The game ended in a draw, he thought he had lost against the teacher. But when he looked at his opponent, there was a strange glow coming from him.
He reached his hand out saying "welcome to the team".everyone cheered loudly at his acceptance for they all knew he would bring them far. tournament after tournament he destroyed his opponents with no hesitation. He was unstoppable, but there was only one obstacle in his way from victory.
His teammates.
although he was skilled the white kids kept dropping their mac and cheese on the court ruining his focus and lowering his performance slowly but surely.
He may have brought glory upon himself, but he started to worry when it came to doubles. How was he going to face this? Would his teammate be ready for it?
he had to mentally prepare himself for this game for it would determine his whole future but to his dismay it was doubles. his partner was dropping pasta on the ground causing him to slip and fall however he persevered and recovered after ever fall.the score was 20 - 20.
final point wins...
It was his serve, his wrist shaking knowing what could happen. How would he recover after this loss? He asked himself. He served the birdie, the rally between his opponents felt like hours, but he knew he couldn't give up. He used up all his power.
For one final swing.
neither team would give up both wanting the title.
he was about to collapse, breathing heavily.
he was going to deliver one final blow but...
he missed.
the birdie flew right past his racket, he was about to fall on the ground in tears.
WHEN SUDDENLY-
FROM BEHIND...
HIS PARTNER SMASHED THE BIRDIE BACK ONTO THE OTHER SIDE.
SCORING THE FINAL POINT.
He looks back at his partner, with a nod of approval before he runs to hug him. Little did they know, that this high school match would forever change their lives. They rejoiced in this moment, with all their classmates and coaches cheering. But in the end it wasn't the fact that they won the match. It was the friends they made along the way.
*5 years later*
Little did they know that they'd be playing for the National Team, in doubles. Doubles was never their thing, but their bond was too strong. they played together for many later years as well their friendship only growing.
Medals after medals and podium after podium, they played together until they could no longer pick up their rackets.
they grew old together. giggling on the porch over their previous games. they were best friends forever...
