After Rhiannon, she prefers Rhian, Gilmore finally woke up to get ready for school.
It was a slow start coming up with a nickname for Rhian. Anne didn't work, Annie even more so. Rhea didn't work either. So, she just went with her full name, until her friend, Adam Lancaster, with his mouth full, called her Rhian, but he pronounced it like Ryan, one day in the second grade during lunch and it just stuck. So, from that day, people called her Rhian, pronouncing it like Ryan. Some pronounced it ree-ann', like her grandparents.
She didn't mind either pronunciation, but she preferred it pronounced as Ryan. It fit with her twin sister, Rory's, nickname.
She knew that Rory was named after their mother, Lorelai. So, Rhiannon asked who she was named after. Lorelai had told her that Rhian's dad, Christopher, had a Fleetwood Mac phase and named her Rhiannon, after the song by Fleetwood Mac. Rhian listened to the song and found the song great, but she wasn't impressed that her dad named her after a song.
