I am shy. When i hear the sound of shouting men and the wind whipping the sail of a galleon. I dive deep beneath the ocean. Thank god my natural coloring is a light pale turquoise, for if it was a different hue. I would've had to fight more pirate ships than all of my ancestors have combined. I have the whales for friends. But, they're not very playful or fun, except for when they're leaping and dancing with the moon. But they mostly drift along with the currents filling themselves with plankton. They provide me a bit of camouflage too, because my huge long monster of a body can be easily mistaken for a big whale but that works only most of the time , for my body is thinner and i have four flippers, my scales shine in the sun and my body is very serpent like. So i usually hide under a whale or two or dive deeper. I travel with a pod of humpback whales they enjoy my protection from sharks and orcas that try to make a meal out of the young calfs. I may be shy to men, but none dare challenge me for I am too intimidating and way too strong to lose a battle against any creature of the sea. sometimes while the whales are sleeping I take a peaceful swim keeping my head over the water. Its quite nice, staring at the stars and hearing the gentle lapping of the waves, and since I am the sacred serpent of the sea the mermaids come and sing to me. We usually talk about how the night is so beautiful and they sometimes bring me fish to snack on while they sing the sea serpent song...

They sing that song all night until its time for me to go. The mermaids have a voice so angelic, they have the power to enchant sailors. I am immune to that power for i have a magic of my own and because I am not a sailor of course.
