"And the award for the best student of this year goes to.... Miss Pamela James Roberts!!!" My fellow batch mates had started to applaud even before the headmaster had announced my full name. All around, I could hear them saying "You are the best!" "Yes!! You deserve it" ...... as I walked up to the dias to receive the magnificent shield bearing my name, my face aglow with the happiness that I felt deep within. The headmaster shook my hand, congratulating me and handed the coveted shield...
"Pam, get up" I heard my mom call out and that blissful dream ended "Now wake up you sleepy head and get ready."
I sat up groggily as a ray of the morning sunlight fell on my face.
"Yes mom" I mumbled and jumped out of my bed.
Unlike every other day, today, I am not getting ready to go back to the school where I never had a friend. I was the victim of all the bullies of my school. But today it was going to end once and for all. I am not saying I'm not happy with the idea of shifting to the new high school in Los Angeles; in fact I am very happy. But the problem is I have to leave my parents and little sister here. They are the only friends I had since childhood. And today I am leaving them behind and moving to a new place hoping to fix the broken pieces of my life.
I got ready and headed to the kitchen. I saw my dad reading the newspaper and my mom feeding Ruby, my younger sister.
"Morning Pam" Dad said not moving his eyes from the newspaper.
"Morning dad" I said forcing a weak smile and took my seat next to Ruby.
"Pam, I have something for you" Ruby said beaming, her blond hair perfectly tied into a braid.
"For me?" I said acting surprised "and what is it princess?"
Ruby nodded and slipped out to the nearest drawer to the table and brought a piece of paper and handed it to me. I smiled and took it. It was a 'good bye' greeting card which she made and decorated with colourful glitter.
"It's amazing, honey" I said and kissed Ruby on her pink cheeks.
She blushed, "Thanks Pam."
"Everything packed?" Mom asked. I nodded and had my toast and hot chocolate in silence.

"Pam" Mom knocked on the door.
"Coming" I said and opened the door.
"Dad is waiting for you in the car outside" Mon said.
I forced a smile and nodded.
"Pam, it's going to be okay" Mom said in a concerned tone.
I nodded again and headed for the car. Ruby was waiting outside with dad.
She convinced mom that she will accompany me and dad to the airport.
"Bye mom" I said getting into the car.
"Bye sweetie".

I landed in Los Angeles and called mom to inform her that I have reached.
Mr. Andrew, one of my dad's friends who live in L.A would be picking me up from the airport and drop me to the school campus.
After waiting for two minutes I saw Mr. Andrew standing at a distance and waving at me. I smiled and walked toward him.
"How are you Pamela?" He asked.
"I am fine, Mr. Andrew" I said and got into the car.

The new high school was thrice as big my previous school. I was sitting in my room. It has been half an hour since I reached here. A lady sitting in the administration department asked for my identity card and showed me my room. I was told I had to share my room with a second year girl. She was not in the room yet. May be she was in class. I could see her things on the other side of the room most of which were either blue or black in colour. I was having a mental debate regarding whether she is going to like me or she is going to be just one of those obnoxious girl in my previous school. But that didn't much matter because I was used to all those.
I took a deep breath, took out my towel and went to the bathroom for a hot shower.
