Maya's head popped up as she heard the door slam shut. Her thoughts were slowed as she tried to wake herself up. She saw that Eli had woken up too, and her Ya-Ya was in the room now. She blinked a couple of times before her eyes settled on Miguel who led Ya-Ya out of the room.

"Maya, I don't know why you don't wanna see me but, I want to see you." Maya felt a pounding feeling in the side of her head which caused her to press two fingers to her temple. "Why don't you wanna see me, Maya?" Maya saw the tears that swelled in Miguel's eyes, she hated that everyone was crying and crying over her.

"I do wanna see you..."

"Then why did you tell that nurse not to let me in? Because that doesn't seem like something someone who wanted to see me would do." Miguel hated that Maya wouldn't look at him, he hated that she just stared down at her blanket and toyed with her necklace. Hawk glanced between the two of them every now and then, but Maya wouldn't answer. "Maya, answer me, please. If it's something I did I'll fix it, I'm sorry for whatever I did just tell me why you didn't want to see me!" Miguel pleaded, quickly wiping the tear that rolled down his cheek.

"You're the one who I didn't want to see, see me hurt because I want to die, Miggy, but you don't. You want me to live despite all of the odds." Maya paused, feeling a knot form in her throat. "I don't wanna see people crying at my bedside, telling me things they always wished they had said before now. I don't wanna see you cry. Hell, I saw Johnny cry today. Johnny, the one who I thought out of all people would never cry. Someone who I never wanted to see cry, especially because of me." Maya finally looked up at Miguel, tears brimming her eyes and sparkling like glittering jewels. "I'm sorry that I hurt you by not letting you inside, but I was trying to protect you like I always have." Miguel didn't know what to say.

Sure, he always tried to protect Maya but he didn't realize until now that she was really protecting him. She kept her and Hawk's relationship from him because she wanted the two to stay friends, she defended him even when people thought he was a nerd, she pushed him to continue karate even after he got hurt at the Halloween dance and was ready to give up.

"You don't need to protect me anymore, Maya." Maya didn't fear death, the only thing she feared was leaving Miguel alone without anyone to protect him since she was gone. Her whole life was dedicated to protecting her brother, who would fill her space once she was gone?

"Boys, I'm sorry to interrupt but I need to run some more tests on Maya." Hawk and Miguel looked at each other, neither of them wanted to leave her but if they wanted her to get better, they would have to leave so the doctor could help her.

Hawk and Miguel went back to Maya's room after the doctor told them they could, and that was when they decided to tell her about Cobra Kai. Specifically that Cobra Kai was officially gone, because of her. Where Kreese and Silver went to, no one really knew. It was as if they disappeared to the fiery depths of hell that they miraculously appeared from.

They told her all about how Johnny now owned the Cobra Kai dojo again, but he'd obviously renamed it Eagle Fang. People were already wanting to join, but Johnny wasn't teaching yet. He said he wanted Maya to be okay first, Maya knew she wasn't going to be okay. Johnny would have to teach after she was dead.

Soon Maya fell asleep, the boys talked about what they were going to do when school started again, and where they'd take Maya when she was allowed out of the hospital. Maya loved summer, she loved the beach and swimming. Hawk said they should go there, and Miguel agreed.

There was a knock at Maya's door, and it opened soon after. Miguel and Hawk jumped up, what the hell was he doing here? Robby glared at the two, he hadn't seen either of them since the tournament. He'd begged his Dad to let him see Maya, but he told him it wasn't the right time, that if he showed up Miguel would surely pick a fight.

"What the hell do you think you're doing here?" Hawk asked, crossing his arms. Miguel stood next to him, blocking Robby's sight of Maya.

"I'm not here for either of you, I'm here for her." He said, still glaring at the two. He didn't care if Maya didn't like him anymore, he still loved her, and he still wanted to see her before she passed.

"Like hell you are." Hawk spat through gritted teeth.

"It's not up to you, it's up to her!" Robby scowled, wishing he could shave the boy's stupid green mohawk again. "I don't care if you two hate me, I love her and I wanna see her and make sure she's okay." Hawk gritted his teeth. He knew everyone loved Maya, everyone except for Sam, but hearing it come from her ex made Hawk's blood boil.

"If you love her so much then where have you been all this time? You didn't come to visit her once!" Miguel shouted, partly forgetting that Maya was asleep.

"I tried! My dad said you would pick a fight, and for the first time in his life, he was right!" Robby shouted back, Hawk quickly pushing Robby back as Miguel stepped towards him.

"Maybe you should just leave." Hawk suddenly felt someone grab his wrist, he quickly whipped around and saw that it was Maya.

"He can stay." Hawk turned his head to Robby.

"You're lucky she woke up." He whispered, turning back to Maya.

"Why'd you get up?" Maya asked him, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Sorry, I jumped up when I saw," Hawk paused, "him." Maya couldn't bring herself to look at Robby. He reminded her of Kenny, and who Kenny had turned into.

"Lay with me, please?" Maya asked softly, Hawk quickly nodding and laying down beside her.

Hawk was so used to how lively Maya was, even when she was tired she was filled with energy. It killed him to see how drained she felt now, and Maya hated sitting around and doing nothing. She wanted to do something, but her body wouldn't allow her to. At this point, it was hard for her to even walk without falling down. Her sickness was getting worse, and she was tired of fighting it, she was ready to simply give up.
