Mias POV:
'Wake the fuck upppp! It's go time!' Lando shouted, slamming my door open and ripping the curtains open too.

I groaned, pulling the duvet over my head and ignoring him as he started to sing and dance around my room.

'5 more minutes?' I begged.

'You can sleep on the plane. Come on, we've got to get going.' He responded, pulling the duvet from off my head.

'Let me get dressed.' I yawned, getting out of bed and starting to brush my hair.

My heart was still aching and I knew I needed to push it aside. Lando grabbed my suitcases, walking them to the door, and then grabbing my bag.

'You're gonna be alright?' He asked, tilting his head to look at me.

'I'll be just fine.' I smiled.

He saluted me, closing the door and letting me get dressed. I put on my watch, my hand touching the necklace that Pierre had gotten me.

'You'll always be my rose in the desert, Mia.'

I bit the bullet and put it on. Not because I missed him, because it was nice, and I didn't want to seem bitter. I didn't want anyone else to know and for that, I had to be grateful for my gift from Pierre.

I threw on an airport outfit and tied my hair back, wanting to be comfy for the 18 hour flight to Bahrain.

We were going on the jets, Lewis and Charles offering up their planes, forcing us to split in two but hopefully meaning I wasn't on the same flight as Pierre.

'Who are we flying with, Lando?' I called.

'Charles.' He responded.

That wasn't exactly the answer I wanted but it worked for me. My brother was in the kitchen, leaning against the island with his head down, music in.

He was distracted and I couldn't help but feel guilty. He looked up when he saw me, pulling out his headphones and flashing me a genuine smile.

'Morning.'

'Morning, are you ready to go?' He asked, throwing me a breakfast bar.

'I'm ready.' I smiled.

'Lewis will be here in a minute. He's picking us up, taking us to the strip.' He explained.

'I thought we weren't flying with Lewis.' I responded, looking over at Lando.

'We're not, but I need to speak to him before the flight.' Daniel responded.

I nodded knowingly, only half knowing what he was trying to tell me. I'd not checked my phone since the night before, and so allowed myself to scan over it whilst waiting for Lewis.

@CharlesLeclerc: hey, I just wanted to check you're okay? Let me know if you want anything for the flight and I'll have it ready for you.

@MiaRicciardo: I'm doing better, thank you. I should be great for the flight, but thanks for the offer.

@CharlesLeclerc: no snacks?

@MiaRicciardo: I mean, if you're offering, I could really do with some tangfanatics.

@CharlesLeclerc: done

I smiled, putting my phone away just as the front door opened.

'Are we all ready?' Lewis asked, instinctively grabbing my suitcases by the door and wheeling them outside.

'Lewis, I can do that.' I insisted.

He looked at me as if I was stupid for a second, before continuing to take my cases out to his car. Lando grabbed his own, walking out behind me and locking the door.

'We'll be at the strip in 10, and Charles will be meeting us there.' Lewis explained.

I watched him and my brother closely as they spoke in low voices, Lewis's hand gripping the wheel tighter the more my brother spoke.

These boys and their steering wheels. I could tell when they were mad just from a simple flex of their hands.

'Mia, I just want you to be careful.' Lando muttered.

'What?'

'Pierre and Charles, they're good friends, on and off of the track.' He began.

'That doesn't matter to me. Charles is a friend, Pierre is my ex.' I shrugged.

'I'm just warning you.' He insisted.

'Thank you, but I'm okay.'

'You know, don't you?' He asked, lowly.

I nodded, allowing him to reach over and grab my hand sympathetically. I'd done a good job at hiding it but Lando could read me like a book.

'I won't ever let him hurt you again.' He whispered.

'I know you won't, and neither will I.' I said softly.

'So why are you wearing his necklace?'

I took a deep breath, before walking back into the other room, sitting back down with my friends and ignoring the gaze that Charles was sending me. He had a way with speaking without saying a word, and it was blinding.

Dangerous.

'So, Mia, when do you start work?' George asked me, leaning back in his seat.

'Not until the first qualifier. I've got a week to myself.' I responded.

'Getting to know the lay of the land.' He smiled.

'Yeah, Exactly.' I responded.

Daniel was sleeping on the other side of the plane, Lando was besides me, and the seat next to George, facing me, was empty. I'd not seen Charles since we arrived at the jet, he stood and watched, arms crossed, whilst Lando insisted on taking photos of me standing infront of it.

I put my phone away the second Charles walked into the cabin. He must've been out the back, or speaking with the pilot, because it had been half an hour without us knowing where he was.

My eyes met his, and he looked down at the floor, sitting down besides George and pulling himself up in his seat. George grimaced, his eyes meeting his friends, and then the flight attendants who was making her way towards us, her lipstick slightly smudged.

Oh.
