I Defy My Purpose

3rd POV

Ruby looks at Y/N before joining Ren at the sign. She then points.

Ruby: "What about this place? Kuroyuri?"

Ren: "It's no use. That place was destroyed years ago."

Ruby: "But it was a decent sized town. Maybe they had a technician's office."

Ren: "If they did I doubt any of their tools survived."

Ruby: "But there's a chance they did."

Ren: "We need to know for certain."

Qrow: "Okay listen. I can head up the mountains. Meanwhile you kids can search for tools. If I reach Mistral then I can bring back help."

Ruby: "Promise you'll hurry?"

Qrow: "Yes."

Ruby: "Then fly like the wind."

He smiles running down the mountain path. Meanwhile the rest of the heroes drag Y/N into Kuroyuri. They arrive to see barely anything remains of it.

Ruby: "Alright gang. I need specific tools. I'll send a list."

She sends them one.

Ruby: "If you can't find one, look for a close substitute."

They nod running to find said tools. While they search she lays Y/N's back against a tree.

Ruby: "Now let's see if I can help you."

She takes the cable from his wrist out jacking it into her scroll. Her scroll is then filled with files on his body. As she goes through the files the others arrive setting down their tools.

Ruby: "Thanks."

Jaune: "How long is this gonna take?

Ruby: "I don't know. But I'll work as fast as I can."

She quickly sets to work.

Y/N POV

I groan opening my eyes. Instead of the real world I see the void of my programming.

Y/N: "Why am I here?"

Voice: "It's been a long time Y/N."

I look around, only to not find anyone.

Y/N: "Who are you?"

Voice: "Relax. You'll know everything soon enough."

Y/N: "What're you talking about?"

Voice: "Times are changing. Pretty soon everything you've lost will be returned. And you'll serve your true purpose."

Y/N: "Whatever it is. I reject it."

Voice: "Silly Y/N. Thinking you have a choice. You were programmed with a single purpose. And when the time comes, you'll serve it well."

Y/N: "I do have a choice. It what makes me human."

Voice: "But you're not human, are you? You're nothing but a collection of ones and zeros. A simple AI."

Y/N: "You're wrong. I have a heart. A soul. It's what separates me from everyday machinery."

Voice: "Just you wait. You'll see the truth soon enough. Mark my words."

I open my eyes once more finding myself back in the real world. I look around to see Ruby by my side.

Y/N: "Ruby?"

She breathes a sigh of relief. She then hugs me.

Ruby: "Don't ever scare me like that ever again."

I smile returning her hug.

Y/N: "Okay."

3rd POV

Mistral airships land. The side door then opens revealing Qrow.

Qrow: "Need a lift?"

They smile getting loaded up. As they make the flight to Mistral Y/N looks at his hands, replaying his interaction with the voice. He clenches his fists looking out at the rapidly approaching Mistral.

Y/N: "I deny my purpose."

He smiles as they breach Mistral airspace. But unknown to all of them. Their troubles are just about to begin.
