"Can I go yet?" I complained to Edaline, sitting on the large bed in my room. She shook her head.
"You're staying in your room until you're five hundred, young lady. Seriously, what were you thinking?" Edaline said. She put the tray with an assortment of gnomish fruits and a salad. "You should have known the consequences of destroying part of Foxfire for a prank! Especially a prank with that boy." Edaline wrinkled her nose and sat next to me on my bed. I rolled my eyes.
"I don't like Keefe!" I yelled, accidentally switching to French. Edaline glared at me.
"In The Enlightened Language, please?" She said. I mumbled something about not liking Keefe. She seemed not to believe me. "Anyways, he wasn't on your matchlist, right?"
"Edaline, he didn't even get his matchlist. He doesn't believe in the system." Edaline shrugged and stood up.
"Go to sleep soon. I'll see you tomorrow when you're going to go to Foxfire and come straight back." Edaline said. I was chewing the salad and didn't respond. She walked out of the room and shut the door.
"Finally! Why did that take so long? We couldn't hear anything." Linh stumbled out of my closet, followed by Biana. I rolled my eyes.
"My mother has this odd idea that I have a crush on Keefe. Which I don't, by the way." I added hastily after Linh shot me a slightly aggressive look.
"Good, because he's kinda dating my twin brother," Linh said. "Anyways, wanna go somewhere other than your room? It's lovely in here, but boring. No offense."
"I'm grounded until I'm five hundred. Edaline and Grady would violently murder me if they knew you were here. I hate to imagine what would happen if I left as well..."
"Come on! Tam and Nemo are there already, and it's starting soon!" Biana pleaded. I stared at her.
"Where are we even going?" I asked. Biana smiled.
"A flasher light show! I got tickets, but I have one extra ticket. Please?" Linh begged. I shook my head.
"Bring Marella. I'm sure she wouldn't mind." Linh blushed and Biana snorted.
"I already asked. If you get ready now, we can make it!" I sighed dramatically.
"You're not going to let me say no, are you?" They both shook their heads. "You are the people parents call 'bad influences'."
"Yeah, yeah. Get on a decent tunic, you can't go in your pajamas." Just like that, Biana was doing my minimal makeup and Linh was picking out a nice blouse for me to wear. I didn't know '"just enough time to get ready" meant forty-fire minutes to an hour, but soon I was standing in front of Vertina, waiting for her to laugh at me. To my surprise, she smiled at Linh and Biana.
"Thank god you got her I'm something decent! I've been trying for ages. She's always wearing wrinkled shirts and her hair is always tangled!" Vertina said. Biana shrugged like it was nothing but Linh looked proud. She produced a crystal from her pocket and grabbed onto our hands. A second later, we were on the beachside, Nemo next to us.
"That took you forever, Linh. The show's about to start." He said, teasingly. "Hi Biana, Sophie. I've been waiting for the past hour."
"Not our fault. We had to get Sophie ready. She has like no clothes! It took forever to find something that looked good on her." Biana complained, walking over to the crowd in seats on a raised platform on the sand fifty or so yards away from us. We followed, walking through the uneven sand dunes.
"This place is empty!" Nemo said, taking a seat near the front. I telepathically translated this to Biana. He was right. It looked like a concert on the sand, with fancy chairs set up in lines. Surprisingly, however, the place was almost empty with a few other elves gathered into seats. None of them paid us any attention.
