Chris' POV
I woke up in the middle of the night due to stress. I look to my side to see Alli on top of my chest, sound asleep so peacefully. I tuck a piece of her hair behind her ear and lightly placed her head on the pillow. I got out of her bed and went outside to get some fresh air.
I looked at the sky as the Moon and the Stars start to slowly fade away. In a couple of hours, Alli will be leaving. I was worried sick about her safety. God knows what will happen in the next few days, what if she gets bitten and turns? She is now my life, my reason to keep living. Not only have I saved her, but she saved me.
I can't stay here while the love of my life goes to the Boarder. I need a Battle Uniform and something to disguise myself. I look to the left to see someone running with a backpack. The person was trying to climb up the fence to attempt to go A-Wall.
I snuck from behind the person and yanked the hook of the backpack so the person would fall down. It was a guy, probably 13 years old, who looked like he was gonna be killed for his actions. I pinned him down so he wouldn't get out of my grasp. He had his Battle Uniform on and his pendant clipped to his collar, Mark Twin, Soldier of Quarantine Zone #2326. He was one of the people getting drafted today.
"Please don't rat me out. I don't want to die." Mark said,
"I won't kill you, but I think the Guards will if you hop the fence." I said,
"No! I can't. I don't wanna go to the Boarder. I wanna stay here. I'm afraid of getting Infected" Mark said, on the verge of crying his eyes out.
"Well Mark, I'll make a deal with you. Give me your Uniform, and I'll go to the Boarder, and I'll give you my Uniform and you can stay here. If you don't, I'll tell Alice you tried to go A-Wall." I told him. When I brought Alice up, his eyes widen in fear.
He nodded furiously as I got off of him. I gestured him to follow me as we walked to Alli's cabin. I looked in the window to see Alli still asleep. I told Mark to stay outside while I grab my Uniform. I quietly grabbed my Uniform and my backpack and shut the door, not too loud to wake her up. We switched uniforms and Mark gave me a fake mustache.
"Nobody will know." I said,
Mark thanked me and went to where he needs to be. I looked inside my backpack, checking to see if I have all of the basic necessities. Water bottle, check. Beef Jerky, check. Gun, check. I have everything I need.
The 5 minute warning rang through the intercom. I raced to the Checkpoint and waited for Alli to take us to the Boarder. Then the 1 minute warning came through and then Alice, half of her beautiful hair braided, carrying her AK 47 as she hushed everyone.
I watched as everyone gave their final goodbyes while poor Alli looked so depressed. We split into 3 sections and started to march. I went faster and caught up to Alice. She looked at me and then just looked back to the grassy terrain.
"Psst. Alli" I whispered. She gave me an evil glare as she grabbed her pocket knife. She then looked at my eyes as she just realized that it's me. She put the knife back in her pocket and giggled as she took off my mustache. I let out a small yelp but eventually got over.
The soldiers started to hum Alli's song as I started to sing the lyrics. Alice seemed to be surprised that I know her song, but I listened to her sing it last night. The soldiers and Alli joined in and by the time we ended the song, we reached the Boarder. And we realized something else, we aren't alone.
I grabbed my gun and started to shoot as many of them as I can. All you can hear was groaning, yelling, and gunfire. They bolted at us and I took Alli's hand and ran to the nearest tree. We quickly climbed up to a tree trunk and tried to shoot them from a distance. Our guns weren't doing the trick, so we had to stab them.
We pulled out our pocket knives. I looked at Alli's beautiful eyes
"I always loved those beautiful blue eyes of yours Alli" I said.
"I always loved your sharp wit and your hilarious jokes." She said.
We started to lean over the tree trunk, preparing for what we'll happen next.
"When I say Jump, we both jump and kill as many as we can. Don't leave my sight." She told me,
"Ready"
"Jump." And with that, we jumped. I stabbed only one of them but then I got dragged away. The creature dragged 1 mile away from her. It tried to bite my collarbone put I kicked it in the face, grabbed my knife and plunged it in its heart and brain.
"CHRIS!" I heard someone yell in the distance.
"ALICE!" I yelled,
"CHRIS WHERE ARE YOU?" I heard Alice scream.
I tried going after her, but no sign of her anywhere. A scream echoed through the woods. I got very afraid, until a gun shot broke the silence. I ran as fast as I can to where the scream could've been. I became frantic and started circling in all sorts of directions.
I stopped to take a minute for my breathing to get back to an average rate, when I saw a pair of feet on the ground. I slowly approached the body and saw a dead creature and a body.
It was Alli. I ran over to her to see that horrible bite on her neck, blood continued to pour out of the wound. I ripped a piece of my shirt off and placed it on her bite, blood immediately absorbed through the cotton as I put pressure on it.
A series of cheers echoed from the distance, we must've won the battle. But I didn't win, I just lost the Love Of My Life. I started to cry silently as I held Alli's body in my arms. I know what I must do. I need to now Lead the Army to the other battles. It's what Alli would've wanted.
I gave one last kiss goodbye to Alli as I laid her body down and went with the others. I walked out of the dark woods and saw everyone cheering but stopped when they didn't see Alli.
"Where's Alice?" One of them asked me,
"She's been bitten." I said, everyone then turned sad.
"I'm gonna to lead the Army now for the rest of the battles. It's what she would want." I said. They gave me a sad nod.
"Lets move out!" I said as we start to go on. I'll never forget Alli, the tough, sweet, broken girl that I fell in love with will never be gone. She now exists in my memory.
The End. For now.
