Lauren's POV
I'm pretty sure we almost broke up last night.
I threw my phone across the room at you.
I was expecting some dramatic turn-away,
but you stayed.
"What were you thinking, Camila?" I said while I started pacing around my room. "What if any of the girls noticed?"
She just sat on the bed laughing. "Come on, Lo, don't be so overdramatic!"
How could she be so relaxed? I was getting frustrated because I knew I was overreacting, but we had promised to keep our relationship a secret for now. She just couldn't try to hold my hand while we were hanging out with the girls.
I was right. She wasn't.
"I'm being the rational one here! If you can't keep a simple promise like this one..."
"What, Lauren?" she stood up, her smile fading little by little, and crossed her arms. "What are you going to do if I try to hold your hand in front of the girls? Because let me tell you, it's not easy or simple to ignore your girlfriend in front of your best friends. Lying to them about something so important." I knew she had a point because it was difficult for me too, but the fact that she was making sense, irritated me even more. She continued. "So excuse me if I try to hold your hand! What are you going to do about it?"
Before I even had time to think about my movements, I saw my cellphone flying across the room from my hand, straight to Camila's face. She held her arms up to protect herself but it still hit her hand and bounced on her forehead. "Oh shit." I thought. "I've just screwed it up."
She stepped back and touched her forehead with her hand and turned her surprised eyes to me. "Did you just throw you cellphone at me?" I was about to say she was stating an obvious fact but I had already ruined things a lot. This was not the moment to get sassy. "Lauren, what the heck? That hurt!"
I felt guilt eating me up. I had ruined everything. We were already having a fight and I had made things worse. The silence in the room was making me nervous but I was also scared of her breaking up with me for being such an idiotic girlfriend.
"Lauren..." She started, but I interrupted her.
"Just go, ok? "
I walked to my bed and lay down, covering my face with a pillow, waiting for her to leave, so I could let the tears in my eyes fall. I waited for the sound of the door but it never came. Instead, a couple of minutes later, I felt someone sitting on my bed and tugging at the pillow to uncover my face.
"Lauren..." She insisted, taking the pillow off and putting it aside. I refused to look at her, and tried to hold the tears by staring at the ceiling. "Aww Lauren, don't cry. You weren't the one hit by a flying cellphone."
