chapter 1 - the red cloak

Its so slow today I thought to myself. I was leaning over the front counter next to the register waiting for someone to come in and buy something, or at least talk to me.

Usually it's never this slow at the shop. I run a bakery and sell baked goods. Usually I have quite a few customers but today there were none. Not even the regulars showed up.

I wonder if something is happening today. Come to think of it wasn't the royal family hosting a festival in the center of the city?

I got lost in my thoughts. A few seconds later I'm snapped back to reality from the bell on top of the door ringing.

Finally a customer

Someone walked in, they were wearing a red cloak, they had some combat boots on and some black gloves. That's kinda wierd, its like a thousand degrees outside. "Can I have a bakers dozen of those explosive bread bites?" The persons voice was deep so I assume he's a guy.

"Ofcouse I haven't made any today so let me go get the bread, I'll be right back." I said

"Thanks" he said; his voice cheerful

I walked into the back, getting the batch of bread bites. I went into the front and placed the batch down, hovering my fingers over the bites. The man in the red hoods head perked up from one of the tables.

Sparks began flying out of my finger tips. The man stood up, and quickly walked over to the counter. "Is that how you make them explosive??" He asked, unable to detain the excitement in his voice.

"Well, yea" I said, slightly embarrassed at his enthusiasm, it's not a big deal, just a little cheap magic

"That's so cool, how do you do that?" He asked

Before I could answer he kept going on with questions "I've seen magic before but never like this. It looks like the bread is soaking up the magic. Does it make it poisonous or taste different? Is this how you them pop in your mouth when you eat them? Is the flavor natural?"

"Woah woah woahh, chill out" I said, still hovering over the magic bread. A smile crept across my face.

"Oh yea sorry about that" the man said, rubbing the back of his head with his hand. But when he did that his hood fell off.

There stood a relatively young guy with vibrant red hair, his teeth were very sharp and pointed with a beautiful pair of scarlet red eyes. But the most noticeable part of his admittedly handsome face, was a pair of horns sticking out of his forehead right above his eyebrows.

"Oh my god" I said, clamping my hand over my mouth

"Oh shoot" he said, clearly distressed quickly pulling the hood back over his head. "Please don't tell anyone about this" he said quietly.

"O-oh, yea sure." I said, still shocked. What was he? I have heard legends and myths that dragons exist here, but only a handful. Plus this kingdom was named dragoon, after the dragons. So it makes sense that there should be some but still what the heck?

"Can I get my bread?" The redheaded man asked. "Oh, yes of course sorry for the wait." I said quickly putting the explosive bread bites into a bag and handing it to him. He gave me a few silver pieces and left with a wave of his hand.

"Okayy what was that??" I asked quietly to myself, trying to organize everything going on in my brain.

Aren't dragons extinct, or atleast on the brink of it?... I can't remember. I'm pretty sure the royal family has a few in their service though. Even so why would one be here?

I didn't know, but it's over now so I don't really have to worry. Or so I thought. A second later the same man in the red cloak came running back in, clearly out of breath. "I... hold on... I forgot to tell you..." he said, stopping in between words to catch his breath. "You should come to the castle. I've never seen anyone use magic like that. That could be really useful to future generations. You should come teach at the castle" He said.

Confused I just nodded my head. Realizing what I just agreed to I quickly come back to reality"wait wait wait, what?"

"Tell them red sent you"

And he was gone.

Okay, this probably sucks but I'm gonna keep on with it, if anyone reads this then please just be patient cause im probably not gonna post very often and just yea. Feedback would be nice and yea, just tell me how you guys are liking the story
