FIRSTLY--IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED WATCHING GRAVITY FALLS AND YOU PLAN TO, HALT OR BE SPOILED! (I had to, I have a lot of non-Gravity-Falls followers)
Hey y'all! This is my first Gravity Falls fanfic, and is a relativity falls au (which for those who don't know, is one where Dipper and Mabel are the older twins, who get separated by time and stuff, and Stan and Ford are the twelve-year-olds who come to stay with their Graunty Mabel in Gravity Falls). As I mentioned though, this one has a twist. In this one, the summer takes place during Stan and Ford's actual childhood in 1963, so Mabel and Dipper would have grown up through the early 1900's. This was too intriguing NOT to write, so the first part of this, is just a very extended prologue, looking at their childhood and young-adulthood.
A FEW THINGS TO NOTE:
1. This might have some dark themes (like it would get a 'T' rating on ff.net): There are references to smoking, drinking (and addiction), domestic abuse, miscarriage, and extreme paranoia. I'll include better trigger warnings in each chapter, but this has been a PSA. The first half is NOT as lighthearted as the second.
2. Because it's set between 1912-1963, some of the attitudes are (particularly towards women and minority groups) pretty dated. I've tried to be pretty light-on in terms of this, because I don't want to make readers uncomfortable, but yes. There's that.
3. Speaking of which, I've done HEAPS of research, but some things might still be historically inaccurate. Please just let it slide, or otherwise offer gentle constructive criticism.
4. Unlike many Relativity Falls aus, this one (once we get to part 2) will not follow the events of the show exactly. This is simply because--the characters are different. Stan isn't as crazy and glittery as Mabel, Ford isn't as caring as Dipper, Dan is far from being as chill as Wendy, and from what we see of Abuelita, she seems to be pretty sharp, so her counterpart Rosa, will be a lot less ditzy than Soos.
5. And yes, I can't find anything to say that Abuelita's first name is actually Maria or Ria, so she'll be Rosa in this au.
6. Oh yes, and I have a zero-tolerance policy for swearing or anything family-unfriendly in the comments, so yeah. Respect that, please.
