My breathes were sharp, and my hands struggled with my sheets. "S-Stop.... D-Don't... hurt... her....." I commanded but my words were muffled.
My movements became more jerky and I never once stopped wiggling out from the blankets piled over me. "No!" I gasped, but my eyes were still closed. I let out a ear-piercing shriek and woke with a jolt, breathing heavily.
I was still staring at nothing, catching my breath, when my aunt burst into the room a minute later. "What's wrong?" She said. Now it was her turn to catch her breath.
All I had to do was look at her to start crying. She was 5 years older then my mom, but after seeing mom in a dream, the pictures fresh in my mind, I see mom when I see Aunt Ruby.
Mom died because of her powers. I was there, watching helplessly as she struggled trying to save herself and me from whatever was holding her so tightly. No one believed me cause only I and my mom were there. All they believed was that she was dead, after they saw her.... So I don't like powers, in fact, I told Ashley that we should dislike powers, just to Ashley cause she was a friend, but she told everyone. And they thought it meant hate the kids with powers..... I just meant powers.
Aunt Ruby is obsessed with powers. She never really socialized with mom, and everyone else was dead. So the orphanage forced me into going.
"You'll have to get some rest. Tomorrow's your test. Remember? I'm dying to see your results. I'm writing this book about all the powers and-"
"I know..." I interrupt, she's told me a hundred times, I'd usually listen to her but I don't really care about it any more.
"Oh..... I'll leave you to it then, Sky ...." She said. And no, I'm not that mean, she just.... acts as if you'd just hurt her feelings, to get sympathy.
I lay back down and stare at the ceiling. "Oh mom...." I whisper to myself. "I miss you.... I'm trying my best to get along with Aunt Ruby.... I know she didn't have to take me in and it was really nice of her to.... But she loves powers and I-... well- you... you know what I mean...."

"Rise and shine sunshine!"
"Huh....?" I rub my eyes and strain them to see what I'm looking at. I was still on my bed..... My lower-side that was.... I was hanging off the bed. I got that, but there was a big paper, I couldn't read what it said cause it was upside down... But it was bright and colorful, just like Aunt Ruby.... Aunt Ruby made this didn't she..
I tried to pull myself up but ended up sliding off the bed fully with my legs folded over my head, so I saw Aunt Ruby through my legs.
"Well that was a good start to a good day!" She seemed so... peppy... Why...? "I have the perfect outfit your your test today!" Of course.. Testing today.. fun... "Up! Up! Upupupuup!" She cheered, practically shaking with excitement.
"Okay! Okay!" I say and I push myself up. I'm definitely in a better mood now that I've had some rest, free from nightmares. I shook myself up and looked for what she laid out for me. I almost fell onto the bed when I saw it... There was a purple tank top and and a gray sweater with a matching skirt.
"No."
"Why not? I thought it looked good!" She said, acting offended.
"I don't wear matching skirts and sweaters. And especially not purple under-shirts...." I say, acting disgusted. "I picked something out already." I lie.
"Fine." She said, I think she was just getting better at acting cause I could scarcely tell if she was even faking..
She sulked out of the room and shut the door, barely stopping it before it slammed.
"I'm sorry Aunt Ruby, but those clothes should be dust by now." I mumble to myself, strutting over to my closet. I pick out some skinny jeans and a baby blue top with lace at the bottom and a black sweater.
If I'm going to fail, I'm going to do it in style.
I walk towards the bathroom, hearing a knock before I close the door. "Come in!" I say and Aunt Ruby comes in, smiling at my clothes, happy I wasn't wearing a sweatshirt.
"Do you need any help with your hair? I could do a bun? I used to be a hairstylist back when I was 24." She asked, desperate.
"Yes, yes I do need help," I say simply. "A bun would be perfect, will a high bun do?"
I try so hard not to laugh. Her mouth dropped open just a little. "O-Oh, okay. Since your in this good of a mood, will you mind wearing one more thing for me?"
"Lets see it." I say, realizing her hands were behind her back.
She held out a silver locket and I almost fainted. It was my mothers... She always wore it but refused to show what was inside it. "Your mother wanted you to have it...But don't open it until you really need to." She said, her gaze resting on the treasured locket.
I nodded. "I'd love to wear it." I said and Aunt Ruby stepped forward, placing it on my chest, I flinched at the coolness touched my skin. Aunt Ruby stepped back to admire it, after she did I looked in the mirror. It was amazing....
"Hair time?" She asked. I nodded and she quickly grabbed a brush and started combing my curly blonde hair with soft strokes so when she was done it was fluffy. "Easier to work with." She insisted. Aunt Ruby pulled my hair into a bun and smoothed the rest of my hair. After she had the bun in place, she pulled out some hair for the bangs and stored them behind my ears, I pulled out a strand from behind my ear. What? It was my signature.
We both stepped back to look at myself. Wow.. I looked a lot older then I was.
"All that's left is the shoes..." She said. What did she want me to wear now?
"I guess your right." I'll give it to her this time, but that's all. "What do you have?"
She smiled and rushed out, hurrying back with a pair of black high-heels. "Please?" She bit her lip, pleading with all her might.
I sighed, rolled my eyes and nodded. "Fine."
"No socks." She said as she hurried out. "I'll be waiting!"
