Kenma was sitting on his bed and tiredly stretched out, on the phone with Yaku, who was excitedly talking about the Christmas party he'd planned this year. "Yeah I'd love to go to your party yaku i-" he then heard his mom call him and a puzzled look spread across his face. "One minute my mom wants me downstairs, I'll call you back." He said and then hung up the video chat before opening his bedroom door and going down the steps, his eyes widened as he saw kuroo and he looked away slowly. "Wow.. such a great surprise." He smiled nervously. Him and Kuroo broke up before Kuroo went off to college and hadn't talked since, and it was awkward now since Kuroo ended it. He smiled at Kuroo warmly and invited him upstairs. "C'mon, Kuro." He said and walked up quickly, before shutting the door behind the both of them.
"What the FUCK are you doing here? We broke up, you're supposed to be gone Kuroo i-" Kuroo sighed and looked at him. "Kenma your mom invited me and she doesn't know about our breakup and I couldn't just tell her like that. She's always been nice to me and I adore your mom." Kenma sighed, knowing he was right he shifted until he was comfortable in his own bed.
"How long are you staying, hmn?"
"I think just about a week. I have a job and stuff to get back to." Kenma nodded "just don't try to worm your way back into my life. I'll take the couch too, A week won't kill me. Probably." He muttered the last part under his breath, watching as Kuroo smiled softly "thank you for being understanding, Ken. I knew you would be." He ruffled his hair and for a moment kenmas heart fluttered with joy before he remembered who this was and what he did. "don't mention it..seriously, don't." He then looked away "how about I make us some cocoa and we can play a game?..if you're up for it." Kenma offered before Kuroo nodded "might as well, I have nothing better to do." Kenma smiled softly "the games and controllers are under my bed, grab them out please." Kuroo nodded as kenma left the room began texting someone slowly. A quick text that was done before kenma was back, kenma smiled and looked at him. "Here's yours, milk cocoa, like you always liked." Kuroo grinned "still remember Ken?~" kenma blushed nervously. "Hot cocoa isn't a weird thing to memorize, I know lev likes his with water and yaku is also more of a milk person, you're not special." Kuroo chuckled before rolling his eyes "alright, don't bite me." He joked before grinning at him, reminiscing on what they could've been, he sighed, sipping the sweet drink before setting it aside. "Everything's set up, I bet I can finally beat you." "Pfft, you wish!"Hours into the night they played nonstop before they realized how late it was. "Fuck, uh, we should sleep." Kuroo said looking at the time. "Just sleep here Ken." Were the last words kenma remembered before falling asleep.
When kenma woke up everything was back in place and Kuroo wasn't there and he signed. He'd been dreaming about him for a while and was so upset every time he woke up before he heard a soft knock on the door. He jolted upright and saw as Kuroo carried in a plate of french toast, he blushed a bit. "Is that for me?" He asked hoarsely and Kuroo nodded "figured I'd do something nice for you." Kenma smiled warmly as he ate them slowly. "Kuroo..I think your French toast has gotten better than before." He giggled and looked at him with a grin. "Thanks for making this."
He shoveled the rest into his mouth and then got up, changing into sweatpants and an old, beat up jacket.
"My mom wants me to go ask people who is going to her Christmas party, it's a day after yakus." He said and grabbed kuroos hand gently "wanna come with?" He asked softly.
Kuroo smiled brightly with a nod. "I'd love to."They walked out the door hand in hand, kenma couldn't help but think about what they used to be, swallowing hard he knocked on his friends door.
