The universe was a slimy scum that didn't want me to be happy.

People who entered my life always ended up leaving even he left.

Before I can remind myself about those memories I get snapped out of my thoughts by my coworker Susan.

"You know if you keep dozing off into a daydream one of our patients might escape and you wouldn't even know until your ass gets fired."

Susan says that as she gives me a look that's mixed with disappointment and annoyance. Susan was a middle aged woman with a stout figure and short blonde hair. She's been working here for god knows how long.

Let me give you some context, I work at an institute for the disabled. Not the disabled like autism or Down syndrome. I'm talking about the blind, deaf, the mentally insane and unstable, etc.

People always ask why I chose to work here. I never answer the question because I try to convince myself that I don't know but in reality I know I'm looking for someone.

I don't realize that I was lost in thought again until I hear the banging of a fist on my desk.

Instead of seeing Susan like I expected, I was met with the face of my boss.

"Aria this is the THIRD time that I have been informed of you daydreaming!"

"Ah my apologies sir I don't know why I'm so lost in thought."

"You have one last chance before your ass is OUT THE DOOR!"

And with that he walked away fuming but still trying his utmost hardest to give friendly smiles to a group of deaf people lounging in the institute's cafe.

Sighing I get up and head towards the coffee machine in the main cafe. Thankfully it wasn't far from the check in desk where I worked. While my coffee was brewing I notice something or someone to be specific.

A boy. He looks familiar. He looks like him.

An odd feeling was swelling in my chest. One that I haven't felt since he left. A mix of anger, sadness, confusion, and stress.

My staring doesn't go unnoticed, the mysterious boy who appears to be new here sends a friendly smile my way while the somewhat old man who I assume is his father gives me a nod with a frown on his face.

I nod back with a somewhat fake smile and pour my coffee which was now ready.

It can't be him. If it was he would've said something. I mean I haven't changed the much since then. I look like myself but depressed.

Before I can turn to walk away the boy stops me.

"Excuse me ma'am!"

I turned around confused.

"Hi, I'm new here do you think you show me my room? I'm not sure where it is."

"Ah yes of course. May I see your room card? It has your room number on it."

"Right sorry" the mysterious boy hands me his room card.

He looks so much like him. Does he know him?

I snap myself out of my thoughts.

He left me. I don't want to see him or hear about him.

Fuck him.

"So my name's"—

"SON" the mysterious boys dad catches up to us fuming. The anger on his face evident.

"Ah yes father" the boy looks at me with an apologetic smile.

"Come now let's go to your room."

"Father this nice lady is showing me to—"

"We don't need her help now come"

"But dad-"

"I will not say it again boy"

"Go it's okay" I say to the boy as he nods and follows father but not before staring at me one last time

As I'm walking back almost reaching my work area, my wrist gets grabbed. As I turn around I'm faced with the boys dad.

"Leave my son alone. I already made him forget so he has a chance at his future now get out of his life for good this time." He whispers, his hold tightening on my wrist.

Before I can say anything he storms off leaving me shocked and confused.

What did he mean by 'this time'?

Well fuck. This day can't get any weirder....
