Oliver POV

"Your help has arrived!"

"Shhhhh"

"Oh please Oliver, no one's even on this floor of the library. We can talk normally" Lila said.

"I'm just saying we don't have to ruin the peace we have up here" I respond.

"Do you want my help or not?" She deadpanned. I sighed.

"I guess"

"That's better. Now that Sam and I are here, let's get to work. So tell me what we're dealing with here. Is it a vengeful spirit? A wandering soul? A demon in disguise?" She names out each of her guesses more excited for each one.

"No. Well, maybe. I don't if I'm being honest" I stopped to try and think about what maybe it could be. I don't think he's vengeful. He just seems scared. I look at Atlas who nods at me to tell her my story. I turn back to Lila and explain from the beginning. Then I worked my way forward to last night's events. I do trust Lila. Even though we haven't been super close, she is still what I consider a friend. She is also right that I can trust her on this. If I know anything about her, it's that she loves the paranormal.

"Ahhh, I see. So I think we might have a wandering soul on our hands. Based on your description of what he looks like and the patterns of death in your dreams it should be relatively easy to find his timeline info" Lila explained. I just shrugged at her and pointed to the pile of books we had that we were searching for.

"We've been searching for a while now, but can't find any record of him" without saying anything she walked over to the books and picked one up. She flipped through a couple of pages and then clapped it shut with one hand. We watch as he turns it over to look at the spine of it. Only the dates were in the spines of the books. Lila furrowed her brows in confusion before grabbing another book and then one after that checking the dates in each.

"Uhm, you realize you're probably looking in the wrong period right?" She gave me a questioning look.

"Uhm, what"

"Yeah, by the sounds of the burnings and hangings and the clothes he wore. It should be in the early 1700s. Not mid-1800s" she added. I facepalmed as she said that. Man, now I feel embarrassed. We've been searching in the completely wrong time period, almost 150 years past where we were supposed to be. God, how could I be so stupid? I leaned back in my chair and groaned.

"Well, I guess we better start looking again. Now that we know which time period to be in" Atlas stated, giving Lila a friendly smile as thanks.

"I'll go grab some of the books for us!" Sam excitedly walked over to the shelf. I took some of the books we had on the table and put them on the floor for more room. We could worry about putting them back later. Sam and Lila came back with a new pile of books. Enough for the first 10 years of that time period's records. We each grabbed a book and the room went back to being silent as it was before. Only the sound of pages turning and rain outside could be heard. Every now and then I heard a creak, but that could be anything. This building is really old so it's understandable. I turned page after page hoping to find something. A picture, an article, hell maybe even just a footnote. But nothing. I still wasn't finding anything.

What if I am just crazy? What if none of it is real and I end up just being the town loon? Always mumbling to myself about the shadows and boy speaking when there's no one there. I'll just end up being alone.

"Hey, Oliver. Come look at this real quick" Atlas pulled my attention away from the thoughts that circled my head. I got up from my chair to walk over to Atlas across the table. When I got next to him I looked at the page he was on. I froze. This was it. It was an article about the boy. The one I had been seeing.
