The cold wind blew past Damien as he looked for her who's been waiting for him. Feeling the warmth of the comfy jacket, Damien saw her hugging her knees while looking above the sky, watching the moon and stars.
It's already late in the night when she called Damien to meet her at a park. Damien didn't want to go, but still decided to meet her anyway.
As soon as she noticed him, a wide smile plastered on her face."Why do you call me at this time? It's already midnight! I just snitched!" he complained as he walk towards her.
She just laughed and tapped her side asking him to sit down beside her. He sat beside her without saying a word. The noise of the crickets suddenly filled the place. It was a really cold night.
Watching her shivered from cold, he asked her breaking the silence, "Where's your jacket? Aren't you cold?" He immediately took off his jacket and put it on to her.
"I'm okay. Here, I bought some food" she said smiling handing him the bought food.
With a feeling of doubt, he asked her if there's something wrong. Why would she call him in the of the night? Is something bothering her? But she just laugh in response making his eyes furrowed.
"There's nothing wrong, okay? Besides you're the one I should take to the hospital, you're the one who's sick here," she said while rolling her eyes on him. "Is it wrong to meet you? I just want to see you. Didn't you miss me?" and then she pouted.
At the moment, he also realized that he misses her. It's been week since the last time they get together. He was busy for the past few days running some test and taking medication so they barely meet each other.
She took her bought food and opened it. His face frowned while looking those chips and sodas. "You know, I'm not allowed to eat something like this." He said but still grabbed the chips.
"Are you still on your meds?" she looked at him while those brows met.
"Yeah, I'm still on my therapy. My doctor said I will recover from my disease if I follow my healthy diet." I said while eating the chips. The bitter after taste, leaves his mouth.
"I wish you'll recover soon, I missed going to the arcade with you." he laughed and messed her hair.
For a moment the silence ensued them again. She rested her head on his shoulder and looked around. Noticing how beautiful the surrounding was. Those neon lights green and blue from the buildings were beautiful, those flickering lamp post nearby, hearing those stray dogs barking from afar as the cold wind keep blowing. It was a beautiful night.
"Do you believe in reincarnation?" she asked suddenly that made him look at her. That was so random, he thought. He shaked his head in response.
"No, why"
"Nothing," she said, "if reincarnation was true, I want to became one of the stars." He looked to her, seeing the moon reflected into her eyes. He was always fascinated on how beautiful her eyes was. They were like stars twinkled in the night.
"How amazing it is to be one of the stars. You know, atleast when I die they will just look up in the sky there they will remember my existence while looking at the brightest star." Damien didn't say a word. He was not ready for that part of life yet.
"Is it beautiful? How the moon shined in the darkest time?" she said while looking amused above.
Damien looked up and saw a big cresent moon above while the stars twinkled. He nodded "Yeah, you're right. It's beautiful." he was amused by how bright the moon was.
"You were like a moon who shed a light when I'm at most on my darkest nights." she smiled by what he said. Her heart was filled with joy hearing those words from him. She felt appreciated.
She hugged him as the silence ensued them again. They remained there for minutes not talking to each other. As the time passed by, the darker the night it gets. Damien looked at his watch to see the time but to find out, it's already two in the morning.
"I have to go, they're looking for me now." He stood up and prepared to leave but she suddenly held his hand and begged him to stay.
"Just be with me now, please." She looked into his eyes, pleading. She want to be with him more. As much as Damien wanted to stay, he knows someone is looking for him
"Just for minute." she begged again that made him nod and stayed. She hugged him so tight as he sat down again. She missed him so much that she didn't want him to leave.
"I really need to go." As the minute passed by.
"I know. I wish we have a lot of time. I'm gonna miss you." She whispered enough for him to hear. He chuckled by what she said.
"What are saying? Of course we'll meet again, I promise." He smiled to assure her. She hugged him again so tight, feeling of not wanting him to go home. He smiled at her and you gave the sweetest smile he ever seen in his whole life.
For him, that was the beautiful night. He seen how Wendy smiled sweetly at him.
He close his eyes as he remembered what happened that night. It was the night when they promised to meet again. And indeed they meet, but in a place where he didn't expect. Watching her how beautiful she was while wearing in all white as his eyes filled with water. Hearing those cries and wailing, while he smiled at her appreciating, how beautiful she is.
She laid down gracefully while waiting to be buried 6 feet below the ground.
He didn't know it was the last night he will saw her smiling at him. The last night she will begged for him to stay. The last night she hugged him so tight. The last night they will meet. His knees trembled, he felt weak blaming his self for what happened.
"Did you really became one of the stars? Why so soon?" he felt a droplets of water flowed down to his cheeks.
What if he stayed that night? Will he still see her beautiful face again? Will she hug her tight when they meet? Will she smile sweetly at him? Will she be with him?
What if he stayed that night, will those thieves won't hurt her?
