The One That's Left Behind

You may say I'm a traitor. Maybe I am. All I know is that I did what I had to do. I picked up a kitchen knife out of the drawer and put it in my bag. Grabbing my bag off the dusty counter, I swung the long strap over my head onto my left shoulder. Since I started this, I should be the one to end it as well. I took the hair tie off my wrist, gathering my dark hair and tying it into a ponytail. I wouldn't want my hair to get in the way of killing the demon I had spawned.

Cherry was right, I shouldn't have trusted that demon, but I was suffering, so why can't others? Now I finally knew what this mentality created, destruction and death.

I walked onto the desolate ground of my town, there were flickering lights and broken pieces of the buildings. A month ago, I would have jumped in joy at this sight, but after Cherry's death, I knew nothing good would come from that demon.

Angie was the name of the demon, she looked like any high school student. She had a bright smile and lively personality so it was no wonder I was tricked into 'ruling' the world with her. Ruling the world sounded fun in the beginning, she and I would skip school even though she technically didn't attend one, trashed people's stores, and stole many, many clothes to dress up and put on a fashion show for ourselves.

It was one of the most happiest days I have had since I was a kid, before I slowly felt the weight of life on my shoulders. The two of us then started wrecking cars, breaking into mansions, and acting like we own it. I felt like a child again, even if I knew deep down, I was just trying to escape.

"Charlie, let's make that person disappear," Angie said, her face devoid of any malice.

          "Who?" I asked, curious.

"The bully that stole your books, poured water on you, and accused you of cheating."

There was a girl who bullied me since middle school. I hated her to the core but I was a coward, shivering like a wet dog in front of her. "Ok, let's do it."

Angie did everything I couldn't, I couldn't hurt people so she did it for me, I couldn't lie so she did it, I couldn't destroy a car so she did it for me. She did everything I wanted to do, as if she was me and I was her.

"Charlie, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to kill your older sister," Angie said, her lips frowning, yet her eyes gleamed.

"Angie, I want you to return back where you came from," I demanded.

"I've apologized, why can't you forgive me? I didn't mean to and you even pushed me down a flight of stairs because of it, can't your anger be appeased?" she approached me, looking as clean as when I first met her. She was a demon, of course, she couldn't die so easily.

Being a few feet away from me, she stopped, smiling as if we were friends.

"Only your death can appease me."

Angie smiled, "I can't die, you know that."

"Of course...that's why I brought this," I said, taking out a knife from my bag. "Before I spawned you, I had read the spell book carefully in case any mishap happened. You didn't know that, did you?"

Angie's expression turned dark, black mists surrounding her, "Don't do it, or else-"

"Or else what?" I smiled. They say what comes around goes around, I guess it's true. I thrust the sharp kitchen knife into my chest. Angie is alive because I am, but if I die, where will she get her source of life then? That was the contract I had read. If I hadn't met Angie, I wouldn't be as brave as to dig my own grave, but the world was falling apart and the only family I had left, Cherry was now dead because of me.

Before I shoved the knife deep into my skin, Angie was desperately trying to stop me, for a second I thought she wanted to save me but no, it was her she wanted to save.

My vision darken immediately as if someone turned off the light, I didn't feel my body hitting the ground or the continuing pain in my chest, I was confused yet unable to do anything.

Ding ding ding! I suddenly heard a familiar sound, it was my alarm clock but how?

"Wake up Charlie or you'll be late!" I hear Cherry's voice, huh? She-she's alive?!

I open my eyes to see a very much familiar place, my bedroom. I couldn't help but smile, I'm alive and Cherry is still alive! I searched for my phone, showing the date I had summoned Angie, that meant it was all reversed? I didn't care to think anymore, all of my curiosity evaporated, all that mattered was that Angie wasn't alive and Cherry was safe and sound.

...

I watched as Charlie smiled and chatted with her adopted older sister, Cherry. I wish she smiled at me like that, though I've seen her smile before, it was never the way she smiled at her older sister. She would smile at the clothes I stole for her, smile at the car I wrecked, and the mansion I broke in for her, but never the Angie that was in front of her.

In the end, I was the one that was left behind...

As I saw my hands fading away, I thought of something. One thing Charlie didn't know about the spell book was that I was the one who wrote it and in actuality, there was no method to kill me, an immortal, yet here I was, dead...because I reversed time.

          The End.
