Chapter 9 - Guilt

Loyalty and friendship are two different things entirely.

Loyalty is a faithfulness or a devotion to a person. You will stick with them, through anything.

Friendship is a mutual affection between two or more people.

They are so different, yet so close. They are enemy's yet siblings.

My loyalty is with Ridley, she took me in from a very young age, we were friends, but she was older and had different interests

Lissa was my new friend. We haven't been friends for long ,but I cared for her. I don't want to hurt her,but ridley took care of me. She helped me, when I fell, and read me stories at night.

She was taken away from me, very fast. You don't learn how much you love someone, until there gone. If ridley's alive, there's a chance Olivia could be to. If I saw her again, I'd have my best friend back. No one could replace Olivia, not even lissa. My life is so messed up. But you're got to do, what you have to, to survive. That's what ridley said. But then if I did do it, I wouldn't just be betraying her, but dimtri to. And I never wanted to hurt both of them.

Walking into that class, was one of the worst things in the world. And seeing her smile and wave me over , made the guilt over ride me. How could I do this to her.

"Hi" I said , trying not to look her in the eye

"Hey" she chirped "What happened with those boys"

"Oh" I totally forget about that "nothing really, no charges pressed"

"At all" She asked

"No they attacked me first and the families don't want there reputation ruined"

"Yeah most moroi, are like that"

"Yeah" I agreed

Wow this lesson is going to drag on

The whole lesson, I stared at the board and listened. This is the first time I had.

The teacher was going on about, if a strigoi comes how us and our charge , have to work together.

"The moroi have to let the dhampir take control, even if it means them dying" she explained.

"Can't the moroi just use magic " a boy asked.

I think his name was Eddie. Eddie was Mason best friend. He had brown, mousey hair and blue eyes. He was fit and tall. Eddie had the same sort of story as me, well expect for the whole best friend betrayal thing. He thought he was a human, until one day a group of strigoi attacked his school. Most of the pupils died. But the guardians got to him in time. They covered the story up saying there was a gun shooting.

From the corner of my eye, I could see lissa trying to catch my attention. I ignored her though, focusing my attention back on the teacher.

"Don't be so ridiculous" she screeched

This caused the whole class to burst out laughing, except for the stonic guardians, who had no hint of a smile on there faces. I glanced around and my eyes skimmed dimtri's. He had a twinkle in his eyes as he smiles at me, I smile back.

"Settle down" the teacher commanded "The moroi have not used magic since the dark times, how could you even suggest that.".

"What happened in the dark times" I asked, looking straight at the teacher.

"The dark times was when the strigoi were in control. They were ruthless and pure evil, like now really. They were in control for one reason and one reason only. This was because of some moroi. They used there magic for evil, fires, tornado's , floods. They wiped out half of the Kingdom. The guardians worked alongside the moroi to save everyone. Now only good magic is taught, to make sure this never happens again".

Every one was silent.

The Bell rang and everyone jumped.

"Class dismissed"she snapped.

"Is everything okay" Lissa politely asked

What I wanted to say is no, I'm going to help kill you to save my cousin, what do you think

What I did say is" Yes dimtri's just training me hard"

"Oh" she replied giving me a understanding look

"I'd better go bye" I replied

"Bye"

"Rose, your late" Dimtri sighed, whilst running his hands, through his hair

"Sorry" I said whilst stretching.

Ridley had taught me too defend myself. Everyone in my class was still better, but I was catching up fast.

"What am I doing today" I quizzed

"Running"

"Will you run with me dimitri" I asked

"Of course" he said

"Thanks"

"No problem" he flashed a killer smile

We walked outside and started to run. I know dimtri slowed down for my sake, it was sweet. We then ran past a dhampir leaving the school, with her parents. This was very unusual as most dhampirs were dumped at the academy from a young age, never hearing from there parents again.

Dimtri must of seen my face drop as he said" did you know your parents"?

"No, they were in a car crash and died. There bodies were almost unrecognisable" I shuddered

"I'm so sorry Rose" he said sincerely

"It's fine, what about you"

"Oh" he seemed reluctant to say anything " I grew up with my family, in Russia."

"Together" you could hear the suprise in my voice. I had learnt this was very rare

He chuckled "Yeah, I have 3 sisters as well, we are very close. But I can't say the same for my dad" his tone grew darker

"He use to beat my mum. I use to go down and see her lying on the floor, screaming out in pain, but I stopped it"

"Let me guess, you kicked his ass" I grinned

"Yeah I did, he never came back" he smiled back

"Wow, that's so cool"

He laughed and I felt my heart miss a beat, him laughing was music to my ears"

We then finished running, I didn't realise how out of breath I was.

"We are all done for today Rose, you can go to bed now"

"Night" I said

"Good night rose"

Before I went he squeezed my hand and I felt fireworks start to fly up in my mind.

This was the most perfect moment, I wished this moment would last forever.
