It was all by accident, their chance encounter to be specific. He was not supposed to be at the coffee shop and she was not supposed to be leaving in such a rush. But of course, like all accidents, they happen.
Iris had slept in that morning. It wouldn't have had been a problem for her but that morning she was supposed to be meeting her friend at the florists to help her pick out flowers for her wedding. She went to bed late the night before because her friend had been begging her for her help, and Iris, being easily persuaded into things, agreed.
So when she finally blinked her green eyes open and saw the time, she knew she had to rush. Heart beating like a mad man Iris pushed back her covers and only realized that her ankle was tangled in the blankets at the last minute, falling flat onto the beige rug that sat underneath her bed.
"You have got to be kidding me," Iris mumbled. Pushing a lock of red hair out her eyes she kicked away the blankets as her phone started ringing. Groaning Iris hopped her way out of her room, just reaching her land line a second before it went to voice mail.
"Hello," She greeted breathlessly.
"Where are you?" Her best friend, Lidia cried.
"I overslept, I'm so sorry Lidia but I will be there," Iris explained. Tucking the phone between her ear and shoulder Iris pulled her unruly hair up into a ponytail as she searched for a protein bar, or something that she could eat on the road.
"Iris I am depending on you here,"
"I know Lidia and I'll be there, I promise." Iris said, trying to calm the poor bride. Ever since the engagement Lidia had been overwhelmed with not only trying to have the wedding she always dreamed of, but also trying to please her mother and mother in law who clashed constantly.
Giving up on her search Iris returned back to her room and started opening drawers and pulling out random articles of clothing. She waited patiently for Lidia to calm herself with her breathing techniques before adding to the conversation. "If it'll help I'll stop at that coffee shop you love so much and bring you a pick me up."
Lidia sniffed, "You promise?"
Iris threw some more clothing behind her, moving onto her closet. "I promise."
Lidia had Iris swear one more time before hanging up. Iris let out a sigh and fell back against her bed, the coat hangers and belts lying under her poking the red head in odd places. Letting out one more sigh Iris pushed herself off the bed and pulled out a pair of dark wash denim jeans and hopped into them, snatching up a white v neck tee shirt.
Iris ran into the bathroom, blinking several times as her eyes adjusted to the light she quickly threw on. She pulled at her cheeks and rubbed the bottom of her neck in an attempt to calm herself down. Her hair was a mess as it knotted in odd places and her freckles that littered her cheeks and nose seemed to stand out more against her pale skin. She had dark circles under her eyes from trying to help her best friend have the wedding that she deserved.
Iris sighed and splashed her face with cold water a couple times hoping that it wake her up. It was going to be a long day for Iris if Lidia was going to go about this in her usual way, which meant she would look at the most expensive items first and fall in love with something that she couldn't afford; Which then meant that Iris would have to explain that she simply could afford them and look at items that were in her budget.
