"It's raining! No way, give me a break!! And I didn't bring an umbrella," Chihiro yelled in frustration.
"Huh, Juri? What about you? Don't you always bring an umbrella?" said a curious Haru.
A visibly irate Juri replied, "All the umbrellas at home had been hidden this morning."
"What?! How mean... wait,like... are you being mistreated by your family or something?! But there's no way that brother of yours would do anything like that..." Chihiro remarked quietly.
Haru called out as she saw what her friend was about to do "Juri! Wait, come under our umbrella "as she and Chihiro were already leaving school.
"Thank you, but I'm going the opposite way, so..." Juri responded as she waved her pals off.
"Hold on a second, Juni," hearing the new voice address her caused the wavy-haired girl to pause from taking a step outside. She turned her gaze to the source of the voice and saw a young man with fair skin, straight light brown hair, and peach-colored eyes.
She couldn't help but ask, "Juni?"
When he heard the confused tone in her voice, he wondered if he had misheard. "I thought I heard your friend say your name just now... was it Juni?"
"My name is Juri, not Juni."
"Oh, sorry about that," the sleepy-eyed boy said.
"No worries, what did you want from me?" Juri asked, returning to the matter at hand.
"I noticed you were ready to leave without an umbrella," he replied, putting out his umbrella for her to accept, "so here."
"Don't you need it?" Juri inquired. "Nah, I like walking in the rain without one," the youngster replied calmly. "So why carry one in the first place?" Juri wondered, "or are you simply stupid?"
"Well, aren't you charming?" he said, sarcasm oozing from his voice. A tick mark appeared on Juri's head.
"But, if you must know, a neighbor had a meeting today and needed someone to pick up her son. The meeting didn't take as long as she thought and ended up getting him herself."Once he finished explaining, the peach-eyed boy extended the umbrella for Juri to take again. "You seem to need it and I won't use it. We both benefit" Still in a soft and sleepy tone, the man tried to persuade her to take it.
Juri almost took it because she felt the person in front of her was sincere. Then she remembered that a particular annoyance was probably waiting for her with one, and all hesitation vanished.
Juri's only remaining emotion after thinking in this way was gratitude for her classmate. She accepted the umbrella from her benefactor while grinning brightly and saying, "Thank you, uh?"
He took the hint, "Katsuhiko Arata," while being perplexed and astonished by the girl's change in tone and expression toward him.
Juri could now properly express her thanks, "Thank you so much, Arata!" while maintaining her previous smile.
"You're Welcome," Arata replied simply. He decided it would be better to refrain from asking why this seemed to matter so much to her.
With that settled, the two high school students started walking from the building to the school gates. Before they parted ways, Arata and Juri said their goodbyes.
"Hey wait, where do I return your umbrella?" Juri inquired, recalling the item in her hand. When the calm brunette heard this, he paused for a moment to respond,
When the calm brunette heard this, he stopped briefly before responding, "There's no need, but if you must, best not to attempt in the morning, I'm typically here last minute, so try class three." Both then exchanged waves before beginning their journey home.
With Juri:
Even if their walk together was brief, Juri couldn't help but remember her classmate's expression.
While walking in the rain, Arata appeared sincerely content and at ease. Could I pull it off?
I wonder...
Present Day
A cheerful young girl who definitely inherited her mother's good looks shouted, "So that's why you adore rain so much mama!"
"Yes, you're correct, Yuki. How could I resist when rain brings back such beautiful memories?" Juri gave her daughter a sweet grin in return. The youngster who resembled his father inquired, "So who hid the umbrellas and why?"
"Excellent question Kaname, it was your uncle Haruka who kept them hidden purely for my annoyance. His plan failed miserably, and your uncle Rido teased him about it for a very long time "Juri said with a smile that was immensely happy. Perhaps a little too giddy, but the children knew it was best to just go with it.
Right then, the three occupants heard their front door open. That could only mean one thing. Juri's husband and father of her two children arrived home.
The three of them immediately felt even happier than before."I'm home," the man stated as he attempted to enter the living room.
"Welcome home dear," was Juri's response before he was attacked by yuki and Kaname.
His two wonderful children hugged him in a vice-like hold before he could even reach the living room to meet his adoring family.
"Welcome home, papa!" shouted the two delighted kids. The two talked over each other asking questions about the story they just heard. Arata glanced at his lovely wife, perplexed, and questioned, "What did you tell them?"
The wife responded with amusement, "The tale of our first encounter."
"I'll be pleased to answer any questions you have for me, but let's head to the living room first," Arata replied, kneeling to his children's height. "I'll even tell you my version."
"Okay, let's go!" said the two kids in unison. At that, the two dashed to the living room to await their father's version of the story.
"Those two seem eager," Arata commented to his loving wife, who was finally able to welcome him with an embrace.
"Don't think they're the only ones; I want to hear this as well," Juri said, breaking away from their embrace."Guess I should figure out where to begin," Arata remarked with that endearing smile that Juri adored.
With that, the two entered the living room, where they found their patiently waiting but excitedly anticipating children situated and ready.
The husband and wife took their seats, with the husband preparing to share their story and the wife eager to listen to it.
This gorgeous family of four was ensconced in a loving and warm atmosphere, each with a bright charming smile on their face.
